@Sainty_CLAWS The Germans didn't have a .50 caliber anything in service, and they still don't to this day. The British had a few different .50 caliber machine guns in service, but they didn't have many half tracks with them as most of their .50s were used for aircraft and tanks, so it's statistically unlikely

When I was a young lad in the mid-80’s, stocking shelves at a supermarket, I became acquainted with a nice old man who stopped into the store around 3 evenings per week. During the winters, making small talk, I would ask, “Cold enough for ya?” Every time he would answer with a smile, “Not as cold as Bastogne!” I, a snotty teenager, had no idea what he was talking about. Some years later when he passed away, the local newspaper ran a feature about him. He was an infantryman in the 28th ID who was a member of Team SNAFU at Bastogne during the Bulge. What I wouldn’t give to talk to him now.

When I was really young there was an older man named Mr. Carl who lived bear me, sweet man but I vaguely remember him saying he was a paratrooper but I was far too young to ask for specifics (within reason) I dont know when he passed but it's a damn shame I never heard any of his stories. This would've been in the early 2000s.

When i was really young (like 6-7) my next door neighbor was some sort of medical personnel in ww2. Unfortunately, we moved away, he passed, etc. What have would give to talk to him now, but I'll always remember the colonel. Great guy.

My great grandfather served with The 101st airborne in Easy’s sister company (Dog Company I believe) and Bastogne was his first combat action back after being injured in the training jumps for market garden. He was a veteran of the Normandy invasion and fought in every major combat action with the exception of market garden. My father and I did a lot of research into his military career as he was unable to talk about it after the war because of how it affected him. Events like this remind us of our history that must never be forgotten. Thank you for uploading such informative content.

My great grandpa fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a corporal and he got hit by shrapnel from a grenade or some sort of bomb. His leg was all ripped up but other than that he was okay. The Germans found him and captured him and treated his wounds. He was in a POW camp and turned 19 years old in that camp, then they moved him to a different camp. The only thing he got to eat and drink was a stale piece of bread and cold disgusting coffee. One of the gaurds in that camp had the same last name as my great grandpa and myself and the rest of my family, and since my family was originally from Germany it kinda made sense, but I don't think we were related to that guard though. Those two got a long better then the him and the other gaurds did. the russians then later liberated him from that camp and sent him home, the first thing he said to his mom was, "i would love some chicken too eat." I never met him but I know he was a great guy, but died at the age of 63 due to heart problems. God bless you great grandpa donald, thank you for your service. o7

This is SO surreal. It looks just like the footage coming out of Ukraine! We tend to think of history in grainy black and white but to the young men fighting this brutal war in 1944 it would have looked and sounded as visceral and real as you see here. Thanks so much for recording and sharing! Here's a quick additional anecdote since others are sharing; My grandfather, Cpl Robert Brady, was in 'D' Company the Leicestershire Regiment in Holland in early 1945. The company was holding a shattered village called Zetten overnight at the frontline in frigid conditions. It was quiet and still until a flare shot into the sky and then, from above, boot steps on the small cottage roof could be heard. From the ceiling burst German paratroopers and the fight began; it went all night and according to the regimental diary, guns were useless but shovels and knives proved far better. It turns out the Fallschirms had cut the company off and assaulted from rooftop to rooftop, blowing some houses open with Panzerschrecks. After a night of close hand to hand fighting like that the dawn came and 'D' company had survied the night but taken bad casualties. My granddad had been with 'D' since they landed in France in July 1944 and he was evacuated shortly after, along with 6 other men, 'officially' for minor wounds but far more likely because they were exhibiting bad mental strain. 'C' company only had 6 original members left by 1945. God bless these men for their suffering and sacrifice and thank you for remembering them and their comrades! o7

A short footnote to the story in case anybody is interested; my Dad remembers Granddad Bob waking up in the night screaming that "the Jerries are on the roof! They're on the roof!". The family would laugh it off and ignore him but when I found the regimental diary and told Dad that story his blood ran cold because it all lined up and made sense. RIP L/Cpl R. Brady, 1917-1972

This has to be my favorite battle from WWII. The fight in the snow, and hell, even just the name itself. “The Battle of The Bulge” it sounds very badass and you know something happened there by just hearing its name. Rest in peace to the brave American boys who fell that day, and to the lower enlisted German soldiers.

Not sure if you're aware of this but trees are not cover, at best it's just concealment. Full power rifle rounds will easily go right through them. So having guys stand up there behind trees is very jarring considering how much detail y'all go through and everything else to make it as historical as possible. Just my two cents from somebody that's been in combat. Love the videos. Keep them coming. It actually looks like a hell of a lot of fun

The helmet I got recently is a 1961 M-CD helmet owned by an air-raid warden in North Carolina. The name "Geyer" is written on the bottom of the helmet. It has some delicious lead paint dust and chipping on the top but I don't snort it THAT often /J Also, do you have to be careful with lead paint and other nasty stuff when doing things like this and collecting because in the 40s they loved to poison people?

I’m 13, do you have any reenacting tips I could use?

Fellow 13 year old here, I am not old enough to reenact yet, but I got inspiration from other reenactors Expect your uniform to get dirty Don't say/do anything that wouldn't correspond to the timeline Guns are still loud and can deafen someone at close range, yell "BANG BANG" if you intend on "killing" someone at close range Be careful with melee attacks, real blades are used most of the time Have a certain character you want to portray, it shouldn't be actual people you're portraying tho You may or may not get literally hurt, keep bandages or any medical stuff within your uniform, or there will be medical staff on standby You're welcome

His video and others are good to help young people understand combat tactics. Learn your history. Important at your age, Find an actual WW 2 veteran and speak to him, as there are not many left....most are 100 years old. Tell him or her Thank you.

@ To speak to a WW 2 veteran in 2025, will be something, you will talk about 50 years from now. My neighbor, is 99 years old and was part of the Liberation of the Philippines capital of Manila. He loves talking to re enactors such as myself, and I am glad he now has opened up on his experience. He told me a story, in December 2024, that will tear your heart out.

man i can just imagine after the combat just going up to meet all the germans or enemies. that'd be cool to just speak to them and get to know them.
