When I joined the Legion I weighed 155# at 5’9”. But was as all soldiers extremely strong. Remember the fashion then was not taking all these protein drinks and we had to be extremely active all the time. 37 mile hikes in full kit and expected to do a mock battle was very normal. How could you gain weight. And even now we do not like larger men for many reasion I do not feel like explaining

Having a reliable hit system might actually ruin the reenactment. For example if the side that's supposed to lose gets a bunch of legitimate and obvious hits it would be difficult to justify the intended result

I think that this misconception of pressure-release mines, while they wouldn't be actually used, could be easily spread off purposefully by the enemy, a propaganda like "Hey, look at these mines, if you step on them they trigger, but won't actually explode until you step off of it" incentivizing you to stay longer on top of the mine, and blow your foot into a bajillion pieces dumb example but it's kinda like when you drink or eat something really good and you turn to your younger sibling and say "Omg this is horrible, it tastes like dish soap! Never drink this!" to scare them off and not drink it so that you can have more, but inverted

I think it's useful to apply some common sense here too For a movie, it makes sense for a mine to detonate on release, it's very cinematic and gives you a moment of tension, but... in an actual war, I imagine the people laying down the mines are more interested in blowing the enemy to kingdom come than they are in giving them a tense narrative moment and the opportunity to disarm the device.

I dident know about this myth/trope at all! This is the first time Ive EVER Heard about it! And when you first Said it, I misunderstood for a brier moment, and thought that it was in the movies where if you stepped on a land-mine, it instantly exploded, and it was in real life where if you step on a land-mine, it click’s, and then explodes when you step off of it!

13:58 I think the only reason i can think of for a mine that's pressure release would be against personnel hiding behind an armored vehicle, like say the tank drives over the mine and when it is no longer applying pressure on said mine it detonates, causing the personnel behind the vehicle to be obliterated.

Thought experiment: IF The Way it works in movies was the Way it world in real-life, would it be possible to eventually save the soldier that stepped on it’s life, if he manager to keep standing there for Long enough, without being killed by the enemy or ai dental ly stepping off in the mean-time!

"Mines out of wood that couldn't be detected by minesweepers"? Don't you detect mines based on the numbers in the surrounding squares and then put a little red flags where you think the mine is and not based on the mine's composition?

like these holes on helmets whose purpose was ventilation they had two holes but they allowed limited ventilation of the head, but it was better than nothing, but the main function of these holes was to support an additional stud on the plate of heavy armor, known as the stirnpanzer ("furehead armor"). but as with those markings, they were abandoned due to the extra weight of the helmet...

at this point, if someone makes a movie where the character stands on the mine and it still explodes (realistic depiction), i suspect that people will come out of the movies saying "wow did you see that mine scene? what a joke, completely unrealistic"

Also there was no red smoke grenade. In reality winters just ran so damn fast, everyone was stuck behind him. For the show, they wanted to make it look different, and more palatable for the viewers, so they used a smoke grenade, and told them to wait for it before they charge.
