There's not necessarily a one-size-fits all answer to this question, but in general it's helpful to have a good grasp of the program and how it can be used to build interactive projects (which might include creating 2D/3D content, dealing with external media files, implementing interactivity, output to displays, etc). Python is also very useful as projects get more complex. The blog also has a bunch of technical articles for developing those skills. Hope that's helpful!
