I learned the song with ease thank you for helping but, your amp was soo muddy. The distortion was over kill made it difficult to really hear the note being played although I did make it through with your kick ass video. Thanks

I used to have a Fender Bass Precision guitar back in my college days, and always focus on watching the Bass player when at concerts and videos. How did you learn the riff? By ear? Music book publication? Thank you for this instructional video series, I really enjoy them! Hope your band is coming to the Chicago area soon?

David Wright great questions! I learn mainly by ear, I listen intently on every note and pick it out until I’m 100% sure what key I’m in. That takes a lot of practice but an easier way is to get the Anytune+ app on your phone and slow it down while increasing the pitch. It will give you exact notes. If that doesn’t work for you then I’ve found Songster is usually quite accurate for tablature.

Mainly fingers. He used a pic on the recording of Whole Lotta Love.

He used both at various times, to get the variety in tones. According to what I've read, for this one he used a pick, and it sounds like it to me.. he gets a lovely snarl out of his bass with the pick, but it's more of a low growl when he uses his fingers.
