I just received a message from the Director of Field Marketing at FLIR. He said that the reason why the video frame rate is so low is due to Export Licensing under the Department of Commerce. If they keep it at or below 9 Hz, then don't need to obtain a State Department export license. "Abysmal" for legal reasons :-D

It comes down to ITAR. With a low frame rate people in other countries can buy them and people in the US can take them wherever they want. If someone were to try to sneak a thermal with a high frame rate out of the US and they were caught they would absolutely be headed to a federal penitentiary. It's because if such a device fell into the enemies hands it could be used against us.

3 spot meters limit, is a bit silly. When monitoring some PCBs I want to have sometimes 10 spots displayed with values all the time. Pretty weird limitations, as the calculations are done on a phone anyway, which have plenty of power to do it.

Well you can have up to 9 meters. Maybe not be as many as you wanted but you may need a handheld IR camera for that kind of work.

I don't believe so, but its been a while since this video came out and the software might have been updated. I would contact FLIR.

Trying to decide between this and the Seek Compact Pro.

Seek Compact Pro i've read has better resolution, but the autocalibration every 2 seconds can be annoying. In some places, the compact pro can be more expensive. Good luck and thanks for watching!

+Boris Bagryanskiy Specs don't mean everything. I know of Android phones with larger megapixel cameras than the iPhone that take worse looking photos. I haven't tried the Seek Pro so I can't be certain that it performs better.

ImmodderNation with night vision specs also aren’t everything. You could buy two different gen 3 pinnacle pvs14’s with similar specs and one could be a waste of money and the other could be state of the art perfection

Two questions 1. How do you know when it's fully charged? How long do you charge for? You said 40 min, just confirming. 2. Mine has microUSB and my phone had USB c. Can I use the micro USB to USB c converter? Thank you for reply..

1. The app will tell you how much battery you have left. 2. Don't think so but buy an adapter and try it. I haven't seen the microUSB version.

Thanks for the video. I'm still undecided between the flir one and flir one pro. I've read some comments that flir one resolution it's so low (80x60) that is practically unusable. So if you didn't like the pro version which is 4 times the resolution imagine the other one. I don't find any video on the entire internet of a comparison side by side between the one and one pro. Maybe you have a friend that can borrow you the flir one and compare them. Until them I'm just looking at the flir c2, which again has 80x60.

MSX would almost become a necessity at that resolution because you wouldn't know what you're looking at. You could also check out Seek Thermal, i've seen more publicity for that item but only the FLIR ONE PRO was available at my local electronics retailer. I wasn't going to bother with the regular one because it has less features and lower resolution

I actually had the seek thermal but I had to return it twice. Funny thing, because flir put a patent on everything the guys from seek had to introduce dead pixels in the sensor and use software tricks to remove them. But they screw something up with the new software and I was seeing dead pixels in the image and nobody from support replied so I returned it. Maybe they fixed it meanwhile but still the ideea of having dead pixel on purpose is not very nice

Yes, exactly: "Every 15th pixel, starting with the tenth, is blacked out to avoid infringing on a FLIR patent." github.com/lod/seek-thermal-documentation/wiki/Frame Amazon even sent me a replacement unit, still same dead pixel problem also on other phones, I thought my phone went crazy :)

I just picked one up cheap but still worried. The only reason I didn't go with seek was the app and needing an account. Not happy flir is the same way. I didn't buy I'm renting. I just need to locate my water leek and hopefully cats and coyotes in my yard.
