The character is given the ability to punch blue force field later in the story. There are several places you can't get to until you finish the story. Just like you can't access the lash/lasso/grapple points until the story gives you that lash/lasso.

Uploads and things in general go lighter, then vary from what display you use. I use my phone now and it’s quite bright even on low brightness on phone.

In the story it's missable at that point, the door to the main room with the enemies locks. But once you get the lash/lasso/grapple thing, you can come back to this room at any time, even after the story is over and use the lasso thing to pull yourself right up to the area.
