It's actually a main line but the moves arent in order. Kd7 is called the Karpov variation and many new players who just saw this line might play it and blunder M1.

Nf6 is the best move. If Nxf5, exf6 turns into the Tartakower variation. That pawn becomes a nice defender when we eventually castle kingside, and our rook will get the open e file.

I'm not sure Caro Kann players take the center pawn. The opening is all about bating the white pieces to break their center, meaning that it takes alot of patience to play properly. Most know that when attempting to learn that opening but it is likely from low to mid low elo for this to happen quite often so...

I actually accidentally did the Caro Kann opening. It was also my first and only win against a 1500 ELO bot without takebacks or hints. Loved it, couldn’t ever replicate it again. Also, thanks to one of the 1200 ELO boys I discovered the Mosquito Gambit so that’s a thing. Turns out I’m a sucker for the French or Indian defense.

as an long time chess player here is an advice: if your new to chess and your watching videos like this AVOID IT. its because there is like 2% chance that the oponent will make the same moves there are like billions of combinations you can never memorise them all, instead get some real experience chess is full of experience no matter how bad you are as long as your playing with someone who is so much better than you, you will keep on learning play with real person rather than memorising these.

As a Caro Kann player, your goal unlike the e6 French is the get the Bishop active and not trapped behind e6 pawn except for the fantasy variation where after f3, e6 is played. The bishop was supposed to go to f5 diagonal almost like the London bishop goes to f4. So Nf6 was wrong theory.

After Queen e2 defending the knight, why can't black capture the hanging pawn on d4? Because if the white knight captures the black knight on f6, you can just take the knight with the queen and your up a pawn. I think what he meant to do was queen to d3 instead of e2. Although the black king's pawn won't be pinned, you won't lose any material.

This is right, Qxd4 is the counter to this, and simply leaves you down a pawn. Although oddly, only less than 10% normal Lichess players found that queen capture, and only 5% of players play Nbd7 for the smother trap to work.
