I have the older Drop Forged Survivalist. Awesomely good knife! When I go outside, the Survivalist is with me. It handles all of my tasks. I did use tennis and electrical tapes on the handle for comfort. The Recon Scout is very nice, though. Cold Steel makes GREAT knives!

According to reviewers on Amazon, the Survivalist itself weighs roughly 14oz. You may want to weigh both knives separate from the sheaths to get an exact weight. It would really help to know how much actual weight difference they are. Thanks

If Cold Steel brought back the Recon Scout & Trailmaster in SK-5, or tool steel, they'd make an absolute killing. Sadly, they've decided to only offer San Mai III 👎, and CPM-3V. CPM-3V is a great steel, but it doubles the cost of the knife, without providing double the capability.

Do they still make the recon scout i love how it looks but its discontinued everywhere I looked or is it just not in stock. coldsteel is hard to tell sometimes. Also Donnie I know you got both the trailmaster an the recon which one you like more. Do you think the drop forge is better. I didn't like the handle on the old drop forge stuff before. I haven't tried the new ones. I don't get blisters i worked for a living. Lol but I don't have big hands. I'm built lower to the ground. One more i was looking at the kabar cutless machete it gets rave reviews but I like the blade on trailmaster which the drop forge covers. I'm getting something the first of the month so far the cutless machete is $48 an i think I can actually put it on my belt. But I might have to look into the drop forge. I wish i could hold them before buying shopping by mail really took away the good old days. We used try blades out at Sports Authority.( hold not cut anything) they used to have a spot you could feel stuff before you bought it. I want a chopper type blade an camping task. The one blade that does the most type of deal the other thing is being left handed i don't want to have to by another sheath. That crosses out a lot of other brands people don't realize how most things are not made for use we just adapt. I know you have a hell of a selection of big blades so what one do you find yourself using the most for stuff. I know a lot are cool but what one do you use really. I'm just starting to get into big blades I always used a folder a tomahawk an saw. An mostly because old sheaths where only for right handed my army knife i wore it backwards or on my bag coldsteel wasn't inter changeable then an they where expensive for a recon scout. Anyway don't over do the shoulder bro exercise is always good later
