"Imnul Eroilor" (Hymn of the Heroes) is an interwar composition, the music of which was composed by Ionel G. Brătianu, member of an extremely political influential family in Romania before, during and after WWI, and up until 1947. Ionel died in 1921, and the music is thought to have been composed on his deathbed. The lyrics were written by Iuliu Roșca Dormidont, a very important poet during Romania's interwar years. The song was written in the honor of the fallen of WW1, it contains some archaic expressions which are considered outdated by today's standards. "Imnul Eroilor" has been used by all regimes in power of Romania ever since it's creation (even during communist years), however, the song has seen a much more important and significant resurgence since 1989. It is thought that the song was used by Legionaries which escaped Romania after the end of WW2 and joined the French Foreign Legion, however, no recordings of that specific version are available. I am from northern Transylvania, and my great uncle died in april of 1945 fighting in Czechoslovakia against germans and hungarians

My grandfather participated in all the great battles of Tatra, Banska Bistrica, Brno, got injured near Prague and was taken PoW by Nazis, only to be freed a few days later, from a camp in Dresden. Romanians also kicked out Nazis from Debrecen and north east Hungary alone. I've seen all these places by car. Cheers friends!
