I went to St Mary's Priory in summer 2022 and was seriously impressed with the quality of the carvings and sculptures of the graves there. You mentioned that one of the graves there might be a heart burial. I visited St Lawrence's in Ludlow in July where possibly one of the most famous burials there is the "heart" of Prince Arthur, the older brother of Henry VIII. He lived and died in Ludlow Castle. It is said that his heart was buried in St Lawrence's in Ludlow while the rest of his body was buried in Worcester Cathedral. However, when I was in the church learnt that they're not sure if it's Prince Arthur's heart which was buried in the church or another internal organ, as they don't know if they could correctly identify the internal organs at the time... Thank you for bringing back some very happy memories of being in Abergavenny, even the cafe in Morrison's!

Brilliant tour imo. St Mary’s use to be my church I went to weekly!I live 7 miles away in crickhowell. The statue of Jesse went up to the Tate in London some years ago and the church organised a trip up for the weekend to see it,it was an exhibition on all statues it was a great weekend. Thank you for your videos I think your amazing.x

Thank you Imo what a great day out the Church was stunning so much history when I see the marble statues on top of the tombs I always feel the people were very well off , the tree carvings were beautiful what great workmanship they were such great artist I just marvel at it As I watched the search for Issy's paring knife Asda Dunelm and Sainsbury's all do kitchen knifes just for future reference .xx

I'd rather spend time in a church and graveyard than a museum. Like you said, there are so many artifacts within an ancient church ... they can teach us a lot of history. And I love the sombre, quiet mood of it all. Loved the tour.. thanks! One place I'd love to see, but know I won't get there is the Paris Catacombs. What a job that was finding a sharp knife. I like the cover that came with it too. The fries looked so good!!. 💗

I'm so pleased you found a knife with a cover. It will stay sharper and safe to store as well. In my area the oldest churches are about 1850 and still in use.

Wow.... amazing that the effigy is still there after all these years. I wonder what type of wood it was sculpted from, to last that long. How many people have looked and perhaps touched it over the years gone by. So interesting. Makes me think of the local coastal first nations and the totem poles they carved and how long they've lasted. We had a master carver in town when I was young ( I was friends with his sister), and I would watch him carve.. so interesting.

You should go up Ysgyryd Fawr. I almost to Abergavenny in 2019 i played guitar in a pub there. Kim Wildes father Marty Wilde has a song called Abergavenny.

The statues and carvings are amazing. I'm not religious at all but i love looking at the historical artefacts in churches etc. Do you think the secret tunnels would have been used to hide people in a similar way large Catholic houses had priest holes? Just something i wondered, i have no idea. So glad the knife hunt is over. Does Izzy have a chopping board?

Oh yes...the knife that you got for Izzy was much nicer than the boring black handled ones in Morrisons...and it had the cover...much better. In My Opinion...!

I was born and grew up in Abergavenny my children baptised at St Mary's but live Bristol now family still there go back occasionally but changed a lot. I think the charity shop used be video shop back in the day. Morrisions used to be the cattle market. Have you done Abergavenny meadows/ linda vista Park and Castle ruins/ museum as that's not far from St Mary's

The d. probably denotes the year that they died. The sculpture would have been carved soon after. It is not uncommon the have the heart of a saint of royalty to be buried somewhere else from the body. Allan Barton from the Antiquary channel has talked about this. That was a very nice visit to St. Mary's.
