Hello! I'm bunking off this morning - I've opportunistically hitched a ride down to Penarth in South Wales. I have a little walk through town, popping into a charity shop and snagging some bargains while I'm there. I take a stroll down to the esplanade and pier to touch base with the sea before enjoying a delicious Wetherspoons breakfast with my boyfriend in the Bear's Head pub.
Next I'm on a mission to buy myself a V-shaped pillow from IKEA in Grangetown, Cardiff.

It's 1:00 a.m. and a very cold 17°F here in central Texas as I'm watching this, feeling miserable with a bad case of flu. But thankfully I have your video to cheer me up! I always enjoy seeing the places you go to in Wales and England. Penarth looks like a nice seaside town to visit! I loved the pier and lovely arcade 😊❤

Hiya. Great video as always. Love being out and about from the comfort of my living room. Pen yr arth does mean the bears head in Welsh, but the town name probably comes from pen yr (g)arth - the top of hill

Pippa, I think most of us women love IKEA and men mostly hate it. We should take camping gear with us, the amount of time it takes to get around it 😂😂😂

I ❤ Penarth! You had some nice charity shop finds. I didn’t realise there were loo’s on the pier. Handy to know. I thought like you that Penarth is translated to English as Head of the Bear 🐻 or Bears Head. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That ironmongers shop is an Aladdin’s cave.😄 The sweet shop is lovely isn’t it. Lots of great independent shops there. Do you get recognised much by your subscribers when you’re out and about? I’m due a trip to IKEA. The V shaped pillows are great. I’ve had one and it eventually went flat.😆 I had mine after surgery for breast cancer as I couldn’t lay down in bed. It’s like a comforting hug the V pillow. I know what you mean about rocket. It’s such a strong flavour you can’t eat a lot in one go really.

Wikipedia: Penarth is a Welsh placename and could be a combination of pen meaning head and arth meaning bear, hence 'Head of the Bear' or 'Bear's Head'. This was the accepted translation for several hundred years and is still reflected in the town's coat of arms which depicts bears. Modern scholars have suggested that the name is shortened from an original "Pen-y-garth", where garth means cliff, hence 'Head of the cliff' or 'Clifftops'.[7] and the Welsh-English dictionary Y Geiriadur Mawr (The Big Dictionary: Gomer Press) reveals that penardd/penarth eb (feminine noun) means 'promontory'.

Penarth is lovely a good couple of finds in the charity shop. I do find some good things in the charity shop. Had to laugh 😆 had an absolute nightmare finding Ikea Cardiff. We drove over not long ago from Bristol and I couldn’t find it.... stopped at so many places for directions. And then when we got there it was the fear of Will this fit in the car 😬😬😳. Lol 😆 the vlog reminded me of that day x (yes it did fit with very little jiggle room)

Wonderful buy on the striped shirts. Love second hand shops for bargains. Actual morning temperature was -18F. High today -10F. Wind chills -45. 30 degrees colder than average so not an average day.

0:00 Now that is how I picked my name, when friends said are you (meaning me) out and about. 1:00 Goggle search said: "Pen" meaning head and "arth" meaning bear, Head of the Bear or Bear's Head. 3:25 Its a great hill to test your fitness or you can walk through the park. 4:55 Cardiff Docks or now call Cardiff Bay in the background. Flat Hols and Split Rock. 8:35 there say an escalator can take 20 to 30 steps to reach the top. Its worth research for more info.

Google says Penarth means Head of the bear. So you are correct. Does it ever snow in south Wales? Nice tour of "Bear's Head". Cheers

It does occasionally. Probably more in the North I’m guessing. We’ve got the North Atlantic drift to keep us warm so I feel coastal areas don’t tend to get quite as cold? I think so anyway?

I noticed that the restaurant had American style pancakes. What's the difference between them and Welsh pancakes? Interesting to know. ha

I think American ones are sweet, less wide and chunkier, where as the UK ones don’t contain sugar and are very very thin, though not as thin as the French crepe. That’s my take on it, anyway.
