People have a habit of doing that for so many shows. And it's especially dumb for Bojack. Season 1 may not have as many big 'concept' episodes, but the humour and creativity is already stronger than nearly all animated shows out there. The only minor weak spot for me is the very first episode which felt a bit family guy with the reliance on a couple of easy cut-away gags. Apart from that it's an incredible show from the get go, and really undervalued by people going 'omg just wait until it gets super dark!!'

@@seanjohansen8401 I think people mistake the time it takes to get into the groove with a show with the show getting into a groove itself. With a lot of shows it definitely is true that the first season can feel a bit weaker or less focused, but I think the phrase "till it gets good" is way overstated, at least here.

I just watched the entire run on another reaction series, and coming back and immediately watching over again... wow. The writing and plot of this show is just so so so amazingly well-done. There are themes and echoes through allllll 6 seasons, it all ties together.

Greatest show of the decade and yet season 1 is kind of subdued by comparison. This season gets better upon rewatch but S2 and on are just insanity. Edit: PS Secretariat wasn't an actor, it was an actual legendary racehorse that won big in real life (they made a movie about it). In this universe they made him like an athlete who gets disgraced and banned from the sport so he kills himself.

There are a lot of messages in this show that I find both depressing and uplifting at the same time. Like "there's no such thing as deep down, your goodness comes from actions" is depressing because a big component of human identity is believing you're a good person. It's a good sign that Bojack is self-aware of his own badness, but it's also just not a good place to be in mentally. It's difficult for me to even conceptualize how low his self-esteem must be. I also think your goodness comes from your actions, but I still _feel_ like a good person. Temporarily feeling like a bad person because you've done something bad does suck a lot, but that's guilt, it's not like living without self-worth. I can't imagine feeling that way all the time.
