This is also why everyone loves Iroh, a man who has experienced the greatest pain that he has endured and transformed it into positive energy, to then transmit it to those who pass through similar routes (Zuko,Toph, the thief etc). If you look closely at Iroh's day, it was all a metaphor for fatherhood in Iroh's case. There's a bit of irony in it, considering he was able to help other men, but not his own son. He helps a mugger get his life together, calms the sadness of a young man, and takes time out to enjoy a game with the kids.
@TheKrislaf4 жыл бұрын
It shows how great of a father he must have been for his own son. Yet, even the greatest parents can lose their children to unfortunate events. That is the real tragedy to Iroh and his son, he never did anything wrong but still lost him.

It's possible this all happened in the same day. The Panther Cats are loose in the city because they're from the zoo that Aang let out, they just didn't get wrangled into the new zoo at the end of his story. Also it often goes over looked but I think Zuko's lighting of the candles is one of the most technically impressive feat of firebending. Yes Azula has presumably hotter flames and can shoot lightning but we never see anyone else do anything this small scale and precise. That was like 50 or so pin sized targets ranging from what looked like 10 to 60ft and all about 10ft off the ground in what was around under 30 seconds. Even if firebending was suspected I would be surprised if the average person even knew something like that could even be achieved with firebending.
@wandanemer26304 жыл бұрын
I know!! It was so delicate and swiftly executed! Zuko's beautiful skills are so often overlooked, since firebending is so more judged in terms of power or flashiness. Even Azula's. But Zuko is amazingly agile and athletic for a firebender, is incredibly resourceful and has wonderful talent with his twin swords. And he's able to use more sophisticated less known forms of firebending like the fire breath he used to keep himself warm in the North Pole and in the Boiling Rock (it's never mentioned, but NO ONE CAN DO THAT, other than Iroh, THE Dragon of The West, Ozai, and one time Azula, while she was deranged). If any firebender could just breath fire there would be no point in having those freezing cells at all in the Boiling Rock. And on that note, I really don't think any conventional firebender like Zhao could keep up in a fight, at night, on the North Pole, with a master water-bender, while nearly frozen to death and drowned (no to mention how important breathing is to firebend, and Zuko melted at least a foot worth of ice, holding his breath, while entirely sumerged in freezing sea water!!!) This kid is *amazing!!*

Sucks to be Zuko...It looks like he doesn't want to get too attached or settled down in Ba Sing Se, much less get involved with someone who may find out his identity someday. It makes sense but it's sad. God, I really love Iroh's tale! It makes one wonder if the reason he's always so kind and helpful to others is because he wasn't able to help his own son... "Leaves from the vine" also killed me! At first it was such a happy song Iroh used to cheer up a crying boy ...and then it turned into a tragic sad song dedicated to his late son on his birthday. The mood just 180 real quick. Then of course, that "In honor of Mako" bit really hurt my heart. Rest in peace, Mako. Thank you for bringing Uncle Iroh to life and bestowing many inspiring and wise life lessons to us. Also, if you were wondering what the writing on the picture said, it roughly translated to: "To General Iroh: See you after we win the War. Your loyal son, Lu Ten" :(

By the time this episode aired, Mako died of throat cancer. He completed recording for the entire season’s production. I think the song itself was the very last recorded performance of such a legendary actor. He also wrote the song himself after he learned that the cancer would eventually kill him. You would notice that the in the following episodes, Iroh speaks very little, this was a production’s decision in order to respect Mako’s family as they grieved his passing at the time being.

I think iroh's tale is so heartbreaking. Throughout his whole tale he's helping people. The merchant with his flower, singing to the little boy, the mugger, the kids playing. But at the memorial for his son he says "if only I could have helped you", he wasn't able to help the one person he needed to help. Then to add on to that he is probably feeling overwhelmingly guilty because his son died in the invasion he started and so in his mind and in reality he is one of the reasons his son is dead

If the tale of Iroh doesn't at least bring some moisture to your eyes at the end, you may in fact be a robot. Iroh's tale is honestly one of my favorite parts of this season. It stands as a fantastic memorial for Mako Iwamatsu, and a great reminder of why Iroh's a great character.

Watching her react to the tale of Zuko with how suspicious she is of everybody was hilarious

For Iroh the letter is assumingely the last letter his son sent saying He’ll see him after they win the war, making the character side of things even sadder, and for Mako he knew he was dying and did cry singing little soldier boy, I don’t have a source it’s just what I’ve heard so correct me if I’m wrong.

That one footprint is there because oppa stepped in that mud puddle. The rest of the ground is stone and you cant really create footprints in stone unless you're applying a lot of force.
