Imotekh the Stormflayer (Necron Flayer Inspired Conversion)

I've seen a few people say that this shouldn't be called a flayer conversion because there's no skin involved, and that's fair. I probably should've used the term 'flayer inspired' as that's more what the commissioner wanted and what I was aiming for. Live and learn. Also, I always check with commissioners as a project nears completion if they want any alterations or changes made to a model. In this case the commissioner was very pleased, and only asked for gore to be added to the blade. It was after that he ghosted me.

Knowing how hard fine cast is to work with this turned out great! I also agree that Necrons are verrry fiddly to convert, lots of narrow limbs and joints to attach. Although the newer kits have brought in a whole bunch of cool components to play around with.

I can't say I'm a fan of this one. Yes, it does look fine as a standalone miniature. But I would've changed multiple things about it. 1. The staff is rather iconic for the stormlord and I therefore would've used at least the head of it for the conversion. 2. I would've replaced the arm with the tachyon arrow in it's entirety, the lychguard kit would've been an ideal source for necrons arms. 3. Not pinning the glaive was a sin and will be punished by the purging of your homeworld. 3. You should've used Immotekhs head, the glyph on his head is just a nice detail to have and it's seperate, so it shouldn't have been too hard to implement. 4. I also think you could've achieved a better flayer look with Green Stuff, but that's subjective and your skulls and blood approach works too. All in all, it's a good model, but I would've approached it differently. I'm also sorry that the dude ghosted you, that's just rude. I suggest, you demand half the payment up front in the future, to make sure, that the commissioner is serious. Have a nice day Kitbosh.

@@WestyWJ I do that with a lot of people I watch (mostly vivid mini mods and kitbosh), I used to even exchange a few of my projects with Kitbosh in the past, so that I could get his opinion on them, but he sadly stopped replying to me, I guess I got too annoying... That said, I tend to criticise a lot, when it comes to converting stuff and it's nice to see, that not everyone explodes in my face, when I try to give advise. Yeah I thought the same. I think maybe replacing parts of the cloak with fleshy bits, along with a gory paint job (leaking out of the rib cage maybe), along with maybe replacing part of the head with the more flayed one looking mouth would fix it

As someone who mostly has worked with necrons, I can most definitely confirm that it can be quite fidelity to work with. My "Traveller" model was quite the pain, at the time I had gotten the model it was my very first warhammer model. Intact my first minature (not counting gundams), which made it quite a pain even more so with it being finecast. Great looking kitbash mate, honestly i might try and make it myself, my custom dynasty lore is essentially most of my dynasty has gone either destroyer cult or been contaminated by the flayer virus.

Well.. it's an amazing thing, don't get me wrong! But it's really not a .. flayer.. they do wear the skin of their prey to scare the enemies.. that's the key point and .. that is just missing

Kitbosh sees the lore more as a suggestion when it comes to his conversions, illegal weapon layouts and non lore conforming minis are therefore plenty in his videos. But some people really dig that, so it's fine I suppose. I myself am a bit closer to the lore with my conversions.

Nice! The only thing I’d change is cut off the halberd’s blade and put on the top of Imotekh’s staff, since it is fairly distinct and would help with identifying him in a match.

I wonder if the commissioner was unhappy with the results and just ghosted rather than talking it out. I like the conversion but flayer generally implies a lot more skin and I could see the buyer being upset by it not being present.
