iMovie BEST WAY To Fade In / Fade Out (2024 UPDATE!)

Yes, It's REALLY THIS EASY!
iMovie has multiple options to Fade in from Black and Fade out to Black. In this video we will review ALL options so you can decide for yourself which option is best for you and your iMovie Project.
The basic iMovie Settings actually have the EASIEST option for Fade In / Fade Out of your video project however this can be limiting. You can also add your own custom Fade To Black and Fade From Black transitions where you can increase or decrease the duration of each one manually. You can even set a default transition timer for every transition you create!
Of course there are several other options for Transitions other than just Fade To Black and these can be used effectively for fading into new clips to keep things interesting throughout your project.

Do you know how to create a long, gradual fade to black OVER the video? Like 6 or 7 seconds of having the video frames get darker and darker until the clip reaches the fade to black transition you demonstrated here? I can put a title card above the video track so it overlays from one frame to the next if I wish, but I can't seem to do that with transitions. I know how to fade the audio gradually by dragging the little button from the edge (when I make the audio a separate track). I want to do the same thing with the video but there isn't a little button to drag on the video track.

I have the same question, except I want to start from black and have the video fade in over about 5 seconds. Not sure if iMovie is capable of this
