Good job Matt, only been using iMovie for a few weeks, so it's nice to get tips on out of the box ways to make the software more powerful.

The KZbin player uses a 16x9 aspect ratio. The videos with the sides cut off are 4:3 (usually non-HD and shot with older cameras). When you open a new project in iMovie you can select the aspect ratio.

Back the background of the image a 16x9 aspect ratio. Anytime iMovie has to stretch the image to fit it will fill it with black.

I don't know why, but I find these videos represent a confidence Matt has, when I don't think he should have that much confidence. His advanced videos deserve a little self-pride for making, like camera reviews, and Final Cut Pro tutorials, but with iMovie, it seems like its just pointing out stuff that looks amateur.

I believe he answered that in the previous iMovie effects, either you find one on the internet or use instant alpha in Preview to "remove" the background, not sure but I think it has to be .png to work

I think you missed the point. You might as well have said "Why go for FCPX or Motion, when there is Maya and Nuke?" This is clearly aimed at the people who want to have fun making videos and not spend a few hundred (or even thousands) of dollars on more advanced software.
