The big guy to the right is pushing the drill more through the material as he is drilling, which makes a difference :) I tried the Hikoki mitre saw, circ, sawzall, nailers, drill driver and I think maybe also impact driver. Anyway; THEY ARE IMPRESSIVE! Hikoki is definitely a brand to consider! If they'd make a some more niche tools they would compete better! I'd say a drill driver is more comfortable to use sound-wise, and also when you install sheet-rock screws. The big advantage with impact drivers are not only size and weight, but also that it's chill on your wrist. I started using impact drivers around 3-4 years ago and I LOVE IT! I have the Bosch GDX, which I find to be super-handy. I'd say I more often use the impact driver together with a rotary hammer than using a drill driver, as most problems will be solved.

Congratulations for the idea I don't remember a review of this kind. Long before the impact drive came to the world I was using my combi drill in the percussion mode for the big screws just to break the torque , and not to jump the bits in the screws head. After the torx screws appear by magic striping a screw was only accidental result of bad quality of the screws. Impact driver is necessary to break the torque in stead of the screws head. Square head for a screw was a very good idea and to strip a head like that was not easy. The rest of the screws are useless, but because of those the impact drive was necessary so from my point of view is just a economical decision. Once again great job U2 definitely Professor material in you.
@sizif7174 жыл бұрын
Once I realised how amazingly effective the impact driver is as a drill for my carpentry tasks- now I use it for most of the drilling instead of the much larger combo-drills. On pine wood and with drill bits up to 1cm thick - those 3000RPMs just breeze through the wood in no time, without ever switching to hammering. Changing drill bits is also much easier and faster.
@MintStiles4 жыл бұрын
They are opposite of eachother. Where as one clutches out, the other pushes harder. The drill motors is limited by the clutch but the impact is limited (mostly) by the head of the fastener. The impact almost has no low power application, but the drill has high power application because it has much better control and delivers smooth power instead of percussive power. Some bits just don't work well with impacts. Unless you are using a impact wrench or adaptors, you are also limited to 1/4" bits... Which has limited torque application - something that a 18v or even some 12v drill motors can easily handle.

A: Its its main purpose B: This realy sucks because you have compared to a keyles Cuck or SDS way to much wobble. Also you are limited in drill lengh, size and it need to be with hex shaft. C: It depends to what you need to drive. If you drive like enormus lag bolts not pre drilled than you have a point. At the other hand the drill will if pre drilled screw an 10 mm bolt faster in a 8 mm hole as your wrench. Also mid size 18V wrenches are more heavy and as big as the drill.

If you’re a pro, you’re almost certainly going to have both types of tools either way and if you’re a home DIY guy, you can really get away with either. Each tool does certain things better than the other but for amateurs working on their own stuff at home, you could probably handle everything with one or the other. I personally bought an impact driver first and the only thing that might eventually make me buy a drill is hole sawing. I know that you can buy adapters to run hole saws on impacts and if all I needed was to make a couple of holes, I might go that route. But if I get into a situation in which I’m gonna be drilling several larger holes, I’m most likely going to buy an actual drill.

On features, the kicker is the variable torque when recessing / seating screws. Assists modes on the driver help, but they will not give you the fine control needed to set a screw properly every time. I sometimes use a variable torque drill on terminals because of that feature. I would never try that with my impact driver, even though it has an assist mode. If you are tightening something with a gasket, like a valve cover, you want the variable torque so you can seat the bolts properly, and then follow with a torque wrench. Too easy to over torque a bolt with the impact driver in those situations. I use a drill to seat gasketed covers on equipment for that very reason. Don't need to follow with a torque wrench in those situations, but also know I won't smash the cover gasket or o-ring. When it comes to a usage advantage- here's an example where the impact driver is better. On outdoor electrical rain rated boxes the screws will often corrode. Busting them loose works much better with the impact driver because it won't twist while allowing the repeated hammering to eventually break the screw / bolt loose. So yes, I have both tools, as I work under a variety of situations and neither tool is appropriate for everything I do.

@WMartinNI4 жыл бұрын
If the driving test had had the same variation as the drilling test (IE testing bigger fasteners that took the drill out of its comfort zone) then the impact would have won. I'm also a big fan of impact drivers with slower speed settings for driving smaller fasteners, my Dewalt dcf887 on low speed leaves the screw needing a little tighten by hand which I love to fine tune things without fear of breaking the head off. You also get a lot more control with an impact because easing off on the trigger will massively reduce your torque, the same isn't really true for a drill in my experience, even at very low speeds they'll still put out a lot of torque. In general, a drill MIGHT be quicker driving certain types of screw, but if you're going to be driving screws all day, you'll be much better off with an impact, even if only because of how much easier it is on your wrist. I'm surprised how good the impact was at drilling concrete. I've used mine before for auger bits/flat bits in wood when I've been too lazy to go and grab my drill, I must get some hex shank masonry bits to give them a go.
