enjoyed your reaction, love how positive your channel seems. hope your day and week gets easier! tyler said he wrote this song for their fans and that: ''You guys deserved to know how I’m doing and how I got here through my journey. And I just want to say thank you guys and I was thinking of you when I wrote this.’' this is my favourite song on their new album. makes me feel emotional knowing all the mental health struggles he's dealt with and now he's watching his own kids grow up and continuing to write hopeful music to encourage their fans.

Tiyah. As the local TOP expert here, if you thought this was good you need to do the TOP journey to understand their lore and how he writes. He is a master lyricist and he has influenced NF (the rapper). If you want to, I can give you a simple route to take to enjoy their story/journey. It's a 10 year battle

I have struggled to understand the first verse of this song since it came out… I think I just figured it out while listening to your reaction so here’s my interpretation lol. “Only consistency in your periphery Is fear and the bridge of your nose And as you move about You learn to tune 'em out But they say they continue to grow” I think he’s making a Pinocchio reference! Equating fear with lies and when they grow it’s like Pinnochio’s nose growing - just building up the lies on top of each other! 😂 That’s my take anyway, gonna stick with it until someone else gives me something more convincing lol. Great reaction! I’m new here, subscribed for more TøP content! 😁

That's interesting and I certainly won't tell you you're wrong but I don't agree. "Only consistency in your periphery / Is fear and the bridge of your nose" I think this suggests that fear and the bridge of your nose are constants in your peripheral vision. The bridge of your nose is a literal constant that you don't usually notice because your brain tunes it out. Similarly, fear is always present in some form, lurking at the edges of your awareness "And as you move about / You learn to tune 'em out" This part explains that as you go through life, you learn to ignore these peripheral constants. Just as you don't constantly see the bridge of your nose, you learn to push fear to the background to function and move forward.

@@Axe1989 I agree completely with your breakdown of these lines. Certainly I could be wrong, but Tyler very often writes in a way that he alludes to multiple meanings with a single concept. One of the first things that they teach in therapy regarding anxiety is that it is driven by an overactive fear response to what are most often imaginary fears. The vast majority of these fears are just lies that we tell ourself. It’s why positive self-talk is also so important in overcoming these mental challenges. The entire verse is paralleling fear and the nose… so when he says “they continue to grow” that’s what made me think of the growing nose reference as well. 🤷♂️ Maybe Tyler didn’t make that reference intentionally, but it’s so apt I’m going to always think of these lines in that manner lol.
