In the UK, 'ringer' is the term used for a vehicle has been rebuilt using structural parts from another car - the implication is that the vehicle may not be what it pretends to be. Is it the same in the US? You put ringer in the title but I don't recall you making any other comment about it.
@RonPratt
@RonPratt 6 жыл бұрын
I was not aware of the UK version of "ringer". In the U.S. the term "ringer" has several meanings, but for this video I was referring specifically to the term "ringer" as it applies to the game of horse-shoes. Horse-shoes is a game played in many rural areas where 2 steel pegs are driven into the ground a specific distance apart from each other. Teams then take turns throwing metal horse shoes at the pegs. A "ringer" is when a horse shoe hits the peg and spins around it, thus "ringing" around the peg. This scores the most points available in the game. There are other ways to score as well. Hope I explained this well enough. It's quite interesting learning the different terminology from across the world. Thanks for watching and God bless.
@robt2151
@robt2151 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your prompt response and the explanation. I was aware of the game, but not its terminology. For us, a ringer is often an accident-damaged vehicle which has been rebuilt by grafting-in substantial parts of another vehicle of the same type. It is often associated with dodgy standards of workmanship, and changes in legislation and insurance practices have made this practice more difficult and costly. It is still possible to legally carry out this type of repair but it is usually not worth the effort unless it is a very special vehicle. Thank you too for not being shy about sharing your faith.

@The Grass Farmer I was hit by a drunk off duty cop and left for dead while towing a car. So I can relate to what you're through. It's not easy and it is a long road to recovery but it does get better. Just try not to get stuck in a rut and a good diet plus some exercise is key. Diet and exercise was the only thing that got me through the depression and it's still a constant battle .

I think a "Ringer" in the US might vary by state. In my state it would be a Salvaged Title.

I saw a documentary on the Thrust SSC land speed record by Andy Green. The team had a thing where the first person of the day to make a mistake had to carry a pair of pink furry dice around. It was funny seeing the dice changing hands during the filming. Always did wonder what Andy's mistake of the day was.

I too suspect that this turn has seen other "off roads". Notice the signage going into the turn. It looks like it's well marked. But... when you compare that to the Google Maps image of that turn (37.192255,-89.490614 circa: jun 2013) there was no warning signage. hmmm...? I guess this guy interpreted the present signage (circa: oct 2018) as "go faster". I love you videos Ron and I love to compare the locations to other maps of other times. Plus the Google Maps gives you a 360 deg view and a lay of the land. This one was easy to find because you "drove" us there with your words. Thanks for the commentary.

If i was an emergency personnel on scene, i would also spare two minutes to block so you could turn around, you saved them a couple of hours of standing out in that while heat traffic controlling by using that truck instead of a saw and rollback. I am sure they appreciate that, especially during severe elements like heat, snow and bad storms. Kudos to them and you for realizing what you each do for each other and appreciating it. It's refreshing to see people with hearts they aren't afraid to use.

A major factor for Jamie Davis and his team is the TV setup - especially the pressure to produce a certain number of programmes of a certain length within a certain timescale. There is more mileage in things that present a particular challenge or go wrong. I have noticed that when there is no drama on the highway then the TV crew tries to find some drama within the team. With this present setup, Ron retains full editorial control and he publishes a video as and when appropriate.

Ron, I love the start to finish videos, BUT I don't want you or anyone else to risk their safety nor do I want you to risk your customer relations for us in YT land. I am extremely happy with whatever your able to let us see, if creating a "long version" of a video risks anyone's safety including other motorists because you have to take a few extra mins in order to video the process then it isn't worth one second of video to see! I would never forgive myself for asking you to risk anything for "a video"! A life is far more important than my viewing pleasure and I am willing to bet the farm that I am not the only one that feels this way. Please be safe, and whatever video you can safely get is more than enough for us.😊 As a add on comment, I always say a prayer before I even open one of your videos. It is wonderful that Ron puts out the videos for us, but as far as taking video in the first place, more and more often I am seeing responders taking video... With the way lawyers and Courts are these days, the vast majority of those vids are made for documenting a recovery ( or whatever ) to show what really happened in case someone gets litigious. Sometimes we get a great guy like Ron that shares some of the videos, often including the trip out with us.. and thats pretty cool.

Even though it is never a good thing that you are called to aid someone, if one of my children or my wife were in your neck of the woods and had an emergency. I pray that you and/or your crew were there to help, because I would know they were in the best possible hands, and the thought of you or your crew would definitely make me feel much better that I had someone who cares watching over my family.

Ron you will like this. I watched another vid on yt from another tow company. He had a semi and trailer that had run off the side of the road on a bank that was having to be towed back up onto the road. He has a heavy tow truck like you but without the rotator. At one stage it starts slipping sideways on the bank and he has to reposition the tow truck 2 or 3 times to get a safe pull. He looks at the camera and says "don't tell me i need a rotator! " and carries on, moving it for the third time. The first 5 comments on the vid are "Hey mate, you need a rotator"

Ron IMHO (19:45) It's OK for you to expect people "to believe like YOU do". But if they don't, at least you respect THEIR right not to. It takes a big person to accept that. GREAT job! !! !!!

Love these videos as I used to drive a tow truck myself. Only drove the roll backs though and never got to play with the big stuff other than backing them in and out of the garage.

Nice & quick job. And, a good job for not having to cut the fence and endangering the livestock and other drivers should the livestock have roamed through a cut fence. Your team is always thinking ahead and working together for the safety of all. Always moving over & slowing down. Be safe & God bless.

You have a kind heart, Ron. And just to address something you said in this video - I don't think any of us who are your staunch fans are at all concerned that you're trying to manipulate our beliefs by asking us to consider the people impacted by the events you see every day.

Hey Ron, big fan of your channel, i have been looking for something like this for a long time now, and finally found it, i did see the part where you said to have the people in your prayers, well they are DEFINITELY in my Prayers....i am a Reverend and i prefer to help people in any way possible even if its just thru prayer, god bless the work you do ron, its hard telling how many people wouldnt be up for this job, and in a way you do save lives your self, by getting vehicles off the road way out of danger, again god bless you Ron, i look forward to your future videos

Ron Pratt I was watching some videos of recovery trucks up in the UK on the west coast. Those guys take extreme chances. In a lot of their videos they had their wreckers/tow trucks standing on end making a pull. Stretching those trucks to the furtherest limits. Down here in the oil field we some times got into situations with oil field winch trucks where we had them standing up but those videos are the first ever I saw of tow truck operators standing their trucks up. I've seen many, many of your videos and you always make it seem easy -- of course with a little hard labor - but the recoveries always are so smooth.

Ron, I enjoy all your videos each every one. I'm a retired NC State Certified Level-1 Firefighter for well over 34 years and I have seen some "doozies" on a accident scene. Your guys and yourself I can tell are firm believers and so am I. A know that God is by my side in everything I do and without Him, things would not be possible. I worked along side with Law Enforcement, EMS, My guys in the Fire Service and towing companies and we worked as a team. I'm also a firm believer in teamwork too. Great footage and I with these videos and what I seen on scenes I used to worked these rotators are one more super great tool for vehicle recovery. I just suscribed and I wanted to because in believers in Christ, there are not all that christian related stuff out there. God Bless and I hope you and your team stays safe and as always keep God at your side. It's effident ( can't spell ) that He is. I know because He is with me in all I do. Oh...about firefighting, all these years were volunteer service. I'm proud that I served in the Fire Service because I spent most of my life in it, even as a child. I take pride in the Fire Service Like the Military. Something to be proud of. Retired in 2014. Michael ( Tim ) from the High Country of North Western North Carolina
