Imperfetto vs. passato prossimo

Hello - I have a question: If I said that in the past because of something, I was unable to do something else - is the last part a Passato Prossimo. I've seen it written that way, but it's not a completed action as it did not occur. confused! Thank you again for your great teaching!

Both could be used. For example: Pioveva e quindi non ho potuto piantare i fiori./non potevo piantare i fiori. Non ho potuto = statement of fact; non potevo = in reference to the time we are talking about (while it was raining). These are indeed tricky, hope this helps!

Very different I am afraid. Trapassato prossimo expresses an action that had happened before another past action happened. For example, I didn’t go to the movies because I had seen this film a few years ago. Non sono venuta al cinema perché avevo visto il film qualche anno fa. As such it will often be combined with passato prossimo.

Answer"yes i have eaten tacos"it doesn't mean yesterday, or before yesterday, or a year ago Io ho mangiato tacos" At least one time in your live or many i have eaten tacos. Hai mai mangiato i tacos? Sì, ho mangiato i tacos. Ne ho mangiati due ieri. You would not use “mangiai”, that would be used for more distant past. Italian passato remoto has a form similar to preterito in Spanish, but the usage is different. When speaking, it is used to describe events in more distant past, and even that depends on the region the speaker is from. Not all Italians use it in spoken language at all. Does this help?
