Tan Jianci has put up the best performance of a fictional character frankly, and not only among the male leads, including Yang Zi, he is the best in the show. With all the shouting and crying Yanzi's performance deteriorated towards the end, whereas his presence on screen demands your utmost attention without any second wasted. Tan jianci's voice, eye movement, gestures , microexpressions everything is impeccable. His line delivery and voice variations makes even a non mandarin speaker understand the meaning behind the sentence. And like he said no role is small, he has stolen the show with least screen time, and his other small roles as Sima Zhao, Chen Renxiang all are memorable. Kudos to him 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼

I started watching Lost you Forever for Yang Zi, but Spellbound by Tan Jian Ci’s acting. He made us hate Xiang Liu in the beginning and slowly changed our hatred into love and cry for the character miserably. He gave life Xiang Liu, so much so that I pray and hope that the author write another story where he gets resurrected or reincarnated to meet with “his”Xioyao. Tan Jian Ci has such expressive eyes. Starting from the cold demeanour look when he first met Wen Xiao Liu,to the flirtatious look as Fangfeng Bei when we first saw him at Xioyao Princess ceremony, to pain he felt when Xioyao hurt him saying he is not the right person to come in her dreams and then the last goodbye with a smile with her tear falling from his eyes every part was beautifully executed by him. It showed that he gave it all. He became one with the character.Thank You, Lost You Forever team that you have cast such a talented actor for Xiang Liu.

Hi 👋; Snowfall started very well. Yeah Love’s Rebellion is definitely on its way to drop; lots of promoting. I hope IC2 has the original cast for the most part like at least the two lead couples. TJC has nailed the two roles I’ve seen him in (LYF both seasons and UTS for now only season 1 and very much looking forward to S2); those were totally different genres from each other, so to see him in yet more will be a pleasure. Hi Marcus! Tan JianCi's XiangLiu is one for the ages. Gosh, when I first read that novel a decade ago, I could not have known there would be an actor who could have played the incredible XiangLiu to fit MY imagination :D. And TJC was just amazing through both seasons. So yes, he stole the show, the whole kit and kaboodle, and made Season 2 watchable. I'm going to try the new Vengo drama. It sounds really interesting. I think you mentioned he was a vampire or something. I don't think I have ever watched a Chinese vampire drama before, except for the old HK kiong-si (zombies). As for 30 somethings portraying younger high-schoolers, yeah. It's hard to suspend disbelief in a modern drama. Not that they look older, but the facial expressions, especially around the eyes, is a giveaway of experience. But then we had Johnny Depp and his partners going as high schoolers to bust teenage baddies in 21 Jump Street and I remember laughing my head off on both the idea that he was playing 15 at 23 and that he was an undercover cop doing this job. Both seemed so ludicrous when he should have been...um...a model LOLOLOL. But none of the Chinese actors playing highschoolers in C-drama looked like Depp (grin). Seriously, though, I would not believe a Li Xian teen portrayal. He looks too much like an adult male.

Hi Marcus ... just here to say I am TOTALLY invested in The Shadow: Snowfall .... It's really a very interesting little vampire drama set in the Republican era ... Vengo Gao is excellent, Ouyang Nana is holding her own so far, and the rest of the largely male cast is keeping it interesting... plus the costumes are gorgeous... I don't much like Republican era dramas, but this one is making me rave ... lol ... On Yang Zi ... I'm really glad she put this out there ... people seem to have such unrealistic expectations of Chinese drama actors .... what she's basically saying is that she's a human being, not an automaton ... and even the most cheerful and outgoing person will have moments when they're quieter and more introspective. I also think it's a factor of age ... as she matures, she is beginning to understand the value of quietude ... I agree she shouldn't have to force herself to be chatty when she's not really feeling that way. On the HS portrayals, I think it depends on the actor. Li Tian's face and body just don't look HS student-like, but I suspect it's a mindset more than anything.

I totally understand YZ, sometimes you just wanna chill. Also I think production should hire younger actors. Some of these actors look absolutely ridiculous trying to play teenagers. Would love to see TJC and YZ as leads in another drama together. Xiang Liu def stole the show, Xiao Yao lost him forever

On the other side of the coin, I recently saw a drama where one of the “adult” character really looked like a preteen if you looked beyond the hair and overcoat and the more mature voice dubbed in. And there seems to be a new trend of using very young girls with older male leads. Some comments are calling it the “Lolita” type of relationship. And Zhao Lusi is always playing young silly women in modern dramas. However she was excellent in Love Like the Galaxy.

Hello, Marcus! Thank you for your updates. I've seen 2 episodes of Snowfall. I'm really enjoying it. Glad to see Vengo not as a bad guy like in Legend of Heroes. I'll be checking out Love's Rebellion when it airs. Excited for The Imperial Coroner s2. Yang Zi should be allowed to just be quiet if she wants to. Anyway, it's because she looks pretty when she smiles and is happy in her dramas and that's why people expect her to be the same in real life. Very philosophical of Li Xian. Hi Marcus thanks for another update! I am currently watching Snowfall.. i'm gonna say it's lacking here and there (especially that doctor "friend" of ML he's seriously felt out of place sometimes and his jokes just meh) but i really like the vibe of the drama, i don't think i've encountered another c-drama with that kind of vibe before, and i love seeing the MC's interaction..they're adorable and the reason i keep watching. I'm hoping Love's Rebellion has decent script coz ZLH totally deserve one..he's talented but i'm afraid they'll waste his talent away...like y'know Jeremy Xu's problem.. REALLY!? IMPERIAL CORONER S2?? FINALLY!! I just really hope they don't ruin all the good things from season 1.. but i'll still desperately wait for it to air!! Yay!

If a show has a few scenes set in the school age past I am fine with it being younger actors instead of the main actors, but if there is actually a good chunk of story centered on their past self I prefer the main actors play them regardless of their age. Take the drama My Sunshine for explain. Wallace Chung/Tiffany Tang were the main leads while Leo Yunxi/Janice Wu were the younger versions. It genuinely felt like I was watching four separate characters.

"A Dangerous and Secretive Path" sounds thrilling, especially with Edward Zhang. Speaking of thrilling. "Interlaced Scenes" was just that and more. As for playing a high school character at 31 years old, I've noticed that Asian men and women are blessed with youthful looks. So if you can pull it off without it being totally ridiculous, then why not? However, you also have to get into that mindset of high school age and with good acting skills, pull it off. As for Li Xian, he looks like, with not only his looks but also his state of mind, does not make him a good candidate to play a high schooler. Hopefully an actor/actress has to know their limits and the director has to be cognitive of the many factors of what is called for in the script and which actor can do it. When you're 30+ years and have been out of high school for a decade or so, portraying a high schooler is a bit unrealistic. Hire some younger up and comers...give them a shot. Kids have a certain ebb and flow that us oldsters(snicker) can't duplicate, replicate, or Xerox. ☮✌

I agree with Li Xian , pass 25 yr age for actors should not play high schoolers anymore 😊 It’s not believable… unless you look like Chen Zheyuan or Evan Lin or Joseph Zeng who all have baby face kinda look 😂production companies need to spend extra budget on younger actors to portray them and also that way giving more chance for those newbies to be introduced and given works😊 and we viewers have better watching dramas experience that way! for example the drama The Rebel Princess …. Really ?! at 40 something portraying a 15 -17 yrs old even if it is Zhang Ji Yi 😂 don’t get me wrong I loved that drama with shaking my head on those scenes though….😮
