One (maybe obvious) thing I hadn't considered is that when you airbrush enamels they don't dry right away like acrylics do, so naturally you get more pooling, which is totally fine for this use case.

Correct, enamels take alot longer to dry, thats the beauty, gives more working time x

I prefer yellow and black (or very dark metals) imperial Fists as well. Such a nice scheme.

4:55 it's one of the confirmed single pigment Contrast paints. Most likely PY83. A bit nerdy, I know, but if you are looking for a economical alternative than Liquitex Yellow Orange Azo ink is a great one to give a try someday.

The recipe for having a shaded yellow is nice. This color is often a problem to get right , but this one seems to set a good foundation for the following steps of "grimdarking"

I love how quick you were able to get the armour base colours done with this method, and it looks better than other methods that take 3x longer! If applying this method to Blood Angels, would you use the same brown primer and just use either blood angel red or ball red for the contrast?

Yea that would work. Anything u need to cut down time. Always using a red primer would help 👌🏻

Great tutorial. When I airbrushed my Imperial Fists with Imperial Fist Contrast they come out extremely matt. Yours however look so shiny and smooth. I am a bit scared that if I add an oil or enamel wash I screw them up since they have a slighlty "rough" touch or texture to them after the airbrushing.

U could always appply a satin varnish to make it less matt.

Looking good! I have 30 Intercessors at the stage where you applied the dark wash although I was planning black oil. I actually have some of that dark wash so might give that a go instead as I do prefer the finish enamels give. My early stages are similar, a slightly more red base and I use yellow inks as per Marco of NJM's guides. I'm always concerned about using GW paints as they change their paints more than any company!

I love the contrast paint rattling grime. Watered down and used as a Recess wash. Or agrax or nun works great too

Cracker ... have always avoided yellow , but again you're making it look easy and giving us mortals confidence... do you ever drill out the bolters ? I've had a few go wrong so tips on not messing that up would be great. Glad to see the channel is beoming a sucess !!!

Thanks for the kind words! Really dos mean a lot! Yes I just slowly drill them by hand. I do have a motor miniature drill that I use at times. But the key is to just take it slow. And you don’t always have to go too deep.

You sure that’s imperial fist yellow and not iyanden yellow? Maybe I went too heavy with the zenithal but mine (using imperial fist yellow like you said) look much more candy yellow than the lovely dark yellow you got….
