I loved this game when I played it solo many years ago. Solo because, back then, nobody else wanted to read all the rules. With the attention span so short today and computer games everywhere, I doubt many young people could handle this. Great video.

Thank you! I agree, it seems like this game was played solo by quite a few people that I've talked to as well. It can be a complicated game and was really surprised they came out with the reprint in 2019.

I'm always tempted by this game, but no-one seems to say "you must buy it!". I only wargame solo FWIW.

I can definitely recommend it, but with a few caveats. It will definitely have a little bit of a "simulation" feel to it. It doesn't play like a typical wargame as in there won't be as many battles, it's about the strategic situation. You will recruit units, then train them up, then move them towards the objective. The other factions will do the same. All while keeping track of the economy and morale of the faction. Some factions need to act fast, others can be more patient. Then maneuver to try and get favorable circumstances for the main battle. Then the battle happens, whoever wins that usually wins the campaign because the losing army is completely eliminated. Then move in the objective, usually the capital and take it. Not a ton of battles but several very critical ones that decided the result. Some like that format, others want a more forgiving result for the losers in order to live to fight again for more fun. Depends on what your looking for in a game. Hope that helps 🙂
