I agree with some comments here. Google was drowning in jargon last time I used it. I am no gumby and have been building websites for 10 years, but thinking Drupal could give me a new way of working I tried it and was really shocked how arcane much of the language and interface was. I dream of a day when the power of drupal is as intuitive as WordPress and I don't have to think so much just to make somethn=ing happen. I just want to think - "hey i have a cool idea..." click click... done!!

Sometimes though it makes sense to hire an outside consultant to save you alot of time depending on your needs.
(Apologies in advance for replying to something you said a year ago.) The world of IT needs to step back and really think about the metaphors and abstractions it uses and figure out how we can make something more intuitive. I have never, ever, been able to describe a CMS to a layman succinctly. I just can't seem to do it in a few sentences. It's either an oversimplification or about 15 min of back and forth.

haha, yeah its not so straight forward sometimes when I read a modules description and it says something like a cck field that you can use with a view and a view reference field after which allows you to embed a filefield and I go wtf? It's now been over a year and I finallly get Drupal to be able to do most things. However some things are still difficult to figure out and themeing whilst flexible is overly complicated. Its taken me ages just to get to grips with it all.

look at Lullabot and Mustard Seed Media podcasts for a start they are probably the best references. Also Tom Gellar's learning Drupal is also very good. Trust me on this, watch videos on Drupal first then read tutorials on the web. You just won't get the Drupal lingo like node, view, cck etc..

Just to clarify something else as a disappointed user with Drupal so far. I see it has so much potential... and flexibility. But I want to be like a racing car driver... using my talent at the wheel to win the race - I shouldn't have to read the help manual to build my own tyres and import a load of plug ins to make the engine run!! Or like buying a house but finding it was a pile of bricks and bags of cement - thats how I felt after reading the hype about Drupal and then actually using it :-(

Give Joomla! a try. I've felt it's easier to set up than Drupal, though it is a much simpler CMS than Drupal. Word of warning: Stay the heck away from SharePoint. If Drupal was complicated for you, SharePoint will be impossible. And frankly you will need $80k/yr employees just to develop and brand a SharePoint site.

Most of these tech ppl are doing "great things" but they SUCK at bringing over the message. Get a sense of self already and try to bring your product/vision(maybe not appropriate) with some personality. It's one thing creating a great product and promoting it because you believe in it. It's another when that product and community becomes a world where you can flee to, to feel safe or to have success...

@minecrafthub11 Can i give you advice? Please stop using JOOMLA, its a piece of shiiit. Nothing works when you have to upgrade, and has tons of bugs. And to create your own modules, its a pain in the ass...just go to wordpress and customize the hell out of it, or just pick a mvc framework like codeigniter or zend. You'll thank me for it.
