It gave us what no Superman movie or show has ever given us, or could ever give us: an ending. An actual life. That's because with a movie, you always either leave room for another movie, or go out with a sacrifice for the drama and thematics of the film

Not that we always need to see how it ends, but for this series (which started with Clark/Kal-El recounting his first memories of seeing his human parents, up to his present) it was absolutely the only ending we could have gotten… Goodness knows what it would have looked like if it was as originally intended, part of the Arrowverse. It’s also impressive how well the ending lands despite that they needed to scrap about three seasons of storylines and still got it to a satisfactory conclusion.

Yeah I saw a lot of people complaining that it needed another season or 2 and I know they wanted more but I think ending here was great, it could have done with another couple of episodes in the final season but dragging it out way too long would have been a mistake, way too God damn many shows do that, they just go on and on and on until it only ends because everyone is just bored of it. On paper a good story that never ends sounds amazing but that's just not how it works, like life stories must come to an end so you can fully appreciate them.
@amendoimbrbr4 күн бұрын
To me, the message of the show was always about love and care, to put it in Clark's own words "I came to this world alone and when I left it I had so much and it was all because of love. Its the thing that makes life worth living. Do everything you can to find love. To give it. To hold onto it. Because life, it goes by so fast."

Such a cool scene, Idles rocking out in the background was just perfection. Really liked that this Superman was far from helpless without his powers. I was reading a post on reddit a few hours ago about what the new Superman movie needs, and among the comments I found one that caught my attention. I need a Superman movie with a happy ending. Funny thing is that this series got it.
@ninjanibba42594 күн бұрын
This and Smallville both got happy endings, so did Returns In fact all of them did, so what is that person talking about?
@joxerd4 күн бұрын
@@ninjanibba4259 A Good Ending. Yeah. Believe it or not, practically every single “solo” Superman movie (BvS isn’t solo) in more ways than one has a very problematic ending. Superman I ends with Superman spinning the world backwards, which is an arguable Deus Ex Machina since he suffers no consequences for it and it’s never brought up again that he can do it (if you count only mainline sequels, not the Donner Cut). Superman II ends with a kiss of memory wiping proportions to restore the status quo. Superman III ends with Gus Gorman suffering no consequences for making a giant death machine just cause he had a change of heart last second. Superman IV ends with Superman pushing the moon out of orbit to defeat Nuclear Man and Lacey breathing in space. It also ends with no viable solution, acknowledgment or follow up to the fact that Superman disarmed the entire world’s nuclear arsenal and nobody gives a care about it. Superman II The Richard Donner Cut ends with him reversing time and undoing the entire movie altogether, rendering it all pointless and irrelevant. Superman Returns ends with Superman pushing an entire kryptonite island into space with a shard stuck in his side, Lois abandoning Richard just cause he’s not Jason’s biological father, and Superman’s noncommittal to being around. Man of Steel, despite a climatic battle ending with Superman in anguish after killing Zod and a quarter of Metropolis in ruins, has a jarring tonal shift to him destroying a drone and the captain calling him “hot” - it doesn’t address the destruction in a meaningful way and is arguably the movie’s biggest flaw. So yeah. Can we finally get a Superman movie that sticks the landing and ends well please?
@ninjanibba42594 күн бұрын
@@joxerd happy ending meaning Superman smiles and flies on or gives hope things will be better, which all the movies have, even MoS did it All you focused on was the plot details, which wasn’t what I was talking about

I like this evolution of Implicitly Pretentious where he went from Video essayist of Marvel movies to a general gushing/retrospective of DC movies shows & sometimes comics. Probably out of necessity because of the Marvel Dip but still well worth it. You helped me realize there were a lot of great DC shows & animated movies that I missed out on. Good luck covering the Arrowverse. I heard it can get very messy.

As the biggest advocate of the Arrowverse I will say that yeah, the bulk of it is hot garbage, not worth rewatching in full. However it does have some flashes of brilliance, and it succeeded where DCEU failed in bringing a full on DC Universe to live action.

I've been singing the praises of this show since its first season. It continually got right what other Superman stories get wrong. When you have a story about a man that is nigh on invincible, you can't tell compelling stories about testing his physical strength so you need to make those stories about his mental and emotional strength. This show is about heart and I think this is the best live action adaptation of the comic we've ever had.

I only started watching this show earlier this year and was glad to see season 4 was out this year. And man, what a ride. It actually made me emotional very often, there's so much heart in this show. I know being about family is a meme and everything but they did an amazing job with all these characters. There's definitely a bit of cheapness to the show and the action isn't the best but the story and acting is great, Clark and Lois in particular are terrific. I know it's called Superman & Lois but I did not expect Lois to be such a powerhouse of a character, her actress was incredible in the role. I was surprised with how many intense things it dealed with like Lois getting cancer and her misscarriage, somehow I never thought they'd go there but I'm glad they did, in a world full of insane superhero stuff it was great to have some down to earth human problems like that. Honestly this show might be the best Superman show out there for me, I love Smallville as well but it's a little long winded so Superman & Lois edges ahead ever so slightly I think. Or at least maybe now I'm in my 30's it just spoke to me a lot more. Anyway yeah don't sleep on this show, great stuff.

Listen, I’m gonna keep asking for a multiverse crossover until it happens. I don’t care that we had a comic tie in crossover; it doesn’t feel like a true finale to the Arrowverse. Characters from the pre-MCU Marvel movie franchises have made comebacks throughout The Multiverse Saga. I don’t see why characters from the pre-DCU DCTV shows can’t either. Especially since there are so many that didn’t get to end properly or get their due altogether like Superman & Lois. That being said, the finale is nearly perfect, especially as a close to the DCTV era.

What makes it uncecessary? If anything, I thought it was beautifully real. That's how cancer is, and for every couple in the world, one of them passes away first. It's important to show that Clark is not dependent on Lois, he doesn't lose himself to tragedy, become dark or sulk when she passes. He grieves, he cries, and he misses her. But he also gets a dog, he spends time with his friends, with his boys. His love for Lois doesn't become a poison when she passes.
