That's the mistake DC is making. Pick a style that works and go with it. I like marvel because it's all colours and rainbows with comedy. Superman III and IV have lots of slapstick comedy in them and feel very silly. Even the theatrical cut of Superman II has a bunch of slapstick moments. People today watch the first Superman movie and the Donner cut of II and forget all the nonsense that are in the other films.

I like the idea that Clark’s “bumbling” through the crowd (dodging people, etc) is actually his extreme carefulness. One slip and he would crash right through someone. Edit: Seems like a lot of you haven’t heard Clark make this very statement himself: "I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something, to break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control even for a moment, or someone could die.”

@@jjlacey1970 I also find it hard to imagine that he'd have a low enough handle of his powers to hurt someone just by brushing against them. If he can't control his strength, then you'd think he'd crack the ground beneath him while putting his foot down and the like. I think it's more likely that he's just putting on an act as the bumbling reporter, especially since his disguise seems a lot more convincing in this movie. Then again, I suppose that he might have a fear of accidentally hurting people regardless of his level of strength exertion.

Everything in this trailer just truly felt like a Superman movie that genuinely embraces that this is comic book world. Just seeing Krypto, that kid praying for Superman to help him, the beautiful bright colours and shots and this teaser's epic yet empowering theme gives me hope for DC and James Gunn's vision for the DCU. David Corenswet looks absolutely perfect in both Superman and Clark. I am especially excited for Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor since he looks very accurate to Lex from the comics, and you can see his burning hatred for Superman in his eyes. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane also looks great, and she and David will surely have amazing chemistry together on screen. I also am hella excited for Guy Gardener's Green Lantern, Mr Terrific, Hawkgirl and Metamorpho's debut too, even if Guy Gardeners baldcut does look as dumb as it does in the 80's Justice League International comics. Thank you, James Gunn!

I agree on the coloration. For me, the only problem I have with the costume is that it still feels just a bit over designed. I’m kind of a Christopher Reeve purist, but I do understand that not everyone probably wants a purely spandex outfit with no decoration other than the belt, the trunks, the boots, the icon, and the cape. For me, the original movie costume is the best Superman has ever looked. I wish that this suit had a little bit less ornamentation, but I’m also grateful because it’s the most simple suit we’ve gotten since Superman returns

In the first two Guardians movies they're just wearing normal space fashion, and in the third they're wearing a pretty direct translation of one of their more iconic comic looks. Even in like the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, they're all just wearing either tactical gear or pretty direct translations of their comic outfits that don't really change anything. There is "Gunn style" for these costumes. He's just taking them 1:1 and only making minor adjustments so they'll look better on camera.

The one thing that I adore about this trailer and I guess the movie. Is how whenever a movie films in Cleveland they always edit it in post to look like New York. They didn’t do that here. You see everything, progressive field, public square, Detroit superior bridge, mentor headlands beach, the arcade, the key bank lobby it’s all there and it’s really cool. You can tell James really enjoyed his time here.

Honestly, I wasn’t feeling it until we started getting cuts to the other Characters and just the WORLD in general. I think that’s what I (and a lot of people) want from these Films. My favorite Superman concept is him squaring off alone against a huge monster/robot/etc as only he can - panels where he is tiny in the sky at its eye level - so that kaiju scene looks awesome. This still manages to hide the actual tone of the film, unless I'm crazy, which is actually cool, but I was surprised at how Clark seems to be struggling in every frame of the teaser. I was expecting at least one glory shot of him smiling and looking friendly, but the struggle aspect seems to be what Gunn is presenting in each reveal about this movie. I trust Gunn, though, and believe he will not deliver a downer Clark like Snyder did. I will say that I'm kinda surprised at the look of the film. How stark it is. I seem to recall Donner talking about the "haze" on the cinematography in the Kansas portions of the 78 film, and that was sorta adopted a bit by Singer in "Returns", and I guess I'm surprised this movie doesn't look more "film-like" if that's a thing. And I fully predict a continuation of the reaction to the first costume photo reveal, and people will criticize that it actually does appear that Lois has to convince Clark to go battle a huge purple eyeball thing that's already destroying Metropolis.

I had a mixed reaction to the movie. Maybe more on the negatives. First of all, Krypto is really cute. It's about time we see a live-action of Supe's faithful on the big screen. I love the colours of this movie. Everything is so vivid and refreshing. I think it really brings out the feeling of 'Hopefulness'. The Superman/Clark Kent casting is true to the comic (New 52-ish?) and also to previous iterations (the dude can easily be cast as the Superboy version of Cavill's Superman). Lois Lane actress is also true to the classic Lois Lane from the 1978 movie and I like it, but I think she is visibly older than Superman/Clark. Especially cus David Corenswet has that baby face. (I like Clark's broccoli hairstyle; it's really clever). Speaking of casting, I can't unsee Nicholas Hoult and that Mister Terrific actor as X-Men. I'm sure they're good actors but I wish Gunn would bring new faces (at least non-previous-superhero cast actors) to play such important roles. Then, there's that big-ass monster! I can't wrap my head around what a Pacific Rim Kaiju is doing in a Superman Movie. Maybe Gunn will pull this off. Let's see. And the costumes! OMGoodness the costumes! It seems like they're all wearing the suits made from the same maker. Rubbery/leathery and very CW-ish. I get it if the Green Lantern, Hawk Girl, and Mister Terrific were working under the same organisation's umbrella, so they're wearing the same costumes (uniforms) with different colour variations (which brings back the vibe of original X-Men Movies; everybody wearing similar leather suits). But Superman! He's not supposed to wear a uniform (never seen in any iteration). His suit is usually either Kryptonian or made by his mum. Even that (presumably) supervillain character in the black who Superman was fighting in a stadium (Ultraman; according to set leaks?). The dude is donning a similar rubbery/leathery costume! WTF? Everything apart, what really worries me is I feel that the movie is quite congested with at least 4 or more villains (Lex, Metamorpho, Kaiju, Ultraman, and that alien-looking orb shooting lasers). I'm a big Superman fan and I really hope this movie does not fail. Maybe James Gunn will pull this off even with such a large number of characters in a single movie. Maybe some of these characters are just cemeos and some villains (I think that Kaiju) will just be in the early part of the movie introducing Superman's abilities, showing a world where other superheroes coexist, and the narrative of the new DCU. I'm hopeful.

From what James Gunn has put out 1) this is not an orgin story. Superman has been doing it for 2 or 3 years. 2) he wears the bright colors and trunks so kids are not afraid of this, of what would honestly be terrifying, god like being. 3) Guy Gardner, hawkgirl, Mr Terrific, and metomorpho all are government sanctioned and corporate sponsored (maxwell lord) heroes. Hense the uniforms. Where as Superman is not either, he just wants to help. Which causes conflict between him and everyone else. Gunn specifically mentioned the Action Commics #775 as inspiration for how they interact and how Clark reacts to darker superheros who kill.

My personal biggest issue with the Superman costume is the logo, I just prefer a more traditional Superman S.

I think we are gonna get another superman suit in this movie. From what we have seen the suits of the superheroes seems to be made by Stagg industries hence they have the same kinda vibe.

there was another channel that mentioned this was filmed on VistaVision and utilized quite a lot of wide lens for that "realism" look, def different to the usual MCU shot on very flat and rely on VFX

I didn't love the trailer, but given the list of comic inspirations (some of the best Superman stories ever written) and the side superhero characters (given they are largely known for being rude or harsh) I am excited for the possibilities. Is the public criticizing Superman for his approach versus the approach of some of the more aggressive superheroes?

I loved it. The tone is great, I really like how different the Clark is to the Superman. I also agree about Lex. My favorite casting in this apart from Superman. Hoult is so damn good and just the few shots in this trailer sold me on him being the Nr. 1 Superman hater.

I’m insanely excited for this movie. I’ve always been a bigger DC fan than a Marvel one, and I love how this DC universe appears to be shaping up. Embracing the sillier elements while not deriding them. Mr Terrific with his silly ass get-up(which I think is dope, but still silly), Guy Gardner and his incredible bowl cut, and Krypto, man. 😂 I’m so here for it. All of it. Let’s f*ckin go.
