Thank you for this superb tutorial! We are planning a trip to Ireland and I created an itinerary using Travel Mapper, but I needed a quick way to get all the events in my Google Calendar. I tried following the Google instructions that you mention "aren't that clear." I agree, they are lacking some important details. One time through your video, a couple of changes (ie: date formatting), and it worked perfectly!

I love hearing this, Brenda! I’m so glad it has helped you to plan your trip. My daughter is 20, here in Australia, and is planning a trip to Ireland soon, too.

If all youtube video's were clear and informative like this, the world would be a better place.

Hi Anthony. Any idea how to load CSV recurring events? I'd like to load in nearly 100 birthdays I've exported to excel from ToDoist.

I have some bad news for you, Brandon. I've checked the documentation (support.google.com/calendar/answer/37111?hl=en) and couldn't see any CSV header referring to Recurring events. As Google Calendar doesn't seem to have a facility to export files as CSV, I took a look at the exported .ics file, editing it in a text editor. It does allow for recurring events, but I couldn't see any headings that might refer to these in a CSV format. I've never used ToDoist, but it does seem to have an integration with Google Calendar, which may help you avoid the export / import. todoist.com/help/articles/use-google-calendar-with-todoist I tried an export on Outlook, as it can export into CSV format. My export included some events which were recurring events in Outlook. Once again, I couldn't see any reference to recurring events, and when I imported that file into Google Calendar, it appeared only to have the fields specified in Google Calendar import format: The Google Calendar import help advises: "Some calendar applications will export repeating events as a collection of single events. Because Calendar reads events as the other calendar application exported them, they will import as one-time events." I saw that Google Calendar allows the following headers. Only the first two are required: Subject Start Date Start Time End Date End Time All Day Event Description Location Private The iCal recurrence rule has a lot more to it, so that might be a way to go, if you can export your ToDoist calendar as ical instead of CSV. icalendar.org/iCalendar-RFC-5545/3-8-5-3-recurrence-rule.html Another option may be just to import one year's worth of birthdays, and then set each one to recurring using Google Calendar, but that's pretty painful. You might also consider searching for a Google calendar Add-on, or even try doing it with a Google App. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

@@AnthonyEnglish Thanks for your response. That is very unfortunate it's not possible to load recurring events. I actually did what you mentioned - loaded for one year and updated to recurring. I initially thought to load 100 years for each birthday but if a change is needed for some reason, that would require a lot of manual intervention. Cheers!

For your "Marketing Workshop" it didn't register the start and end time. I'm running into this issue myself. Any ideas?

Oh, you’re quite right. The start and end time didn’t work for the import as I allowed Google Sheets to calculate it in the format 11:30 AM In your CSV file, the start abc end times should be: HH:mm:ss with the HH representing 24-hour (military) time. Don’t put in AM or PM. If you’re using a spreadsheet program such as Google Sheets or Excel, you’ll need to change your cell number format to be “Plain text.” So, a meeting starting at 11:30 AM would have the entry: 11:30:00 And if the meeting ends at, say, 1:00 PM, the end time should be set to: 13:00:00 I should redo my video to indicate this.

Is there a way to have the events as all day events and 'free' instead of 'busy?'

Good question, Holly. You certainly can mark yourself as free, even if you have an all-day event (or any event) in your calendar. Here's how to do it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3TKZn6uha2BjKc
