Importance of base and storm collars on furnace pipes

Excellent workmanship!! I just had a wood heater installed just before thanksgiving. The chimney goes straight up through my new $11,000 metal roof. It has leaked every since. The installers have been back twice now. We thought we had the leak identified. We even ran water on the assembly for half an hour with no leaks. We celebrated until the next rain. It leaked. WTH??? They’re coming back to try again. I’ve pulled the unit out from the inside in hopes of being able to watch for the leak should it rain again. I plan to try bagging the very top of the chimney to see if for some freaky reason the rain water may be blowing in somehow. Also plan to do a nighttime light test where I go on the roof while someone stands inside the house and shines a bright light up through the chimney. Frustrated. Thank you for sharing your work. Your customers are very fortunate to have quality contractors in their area.

Unfortunately the contractor that put on my new roof did not replace any of the base flashing for the water heater or electric mast. Only did the smaller plumbing pipes. As far as I know it's the same flashing that was put on the house when it was built in 1992. I wish I was more educated before hiring so I would know what to have in the scope of work before the work began. Thanks for the video.

we are getting water in between the 2 pipes, leaking down onto the top of the hot water heater. Went onto the roof but all looks good. Storm collar is down and caulked, etc. It was a hard storm so maybe it was wind-blown rain that got under the cap and traveled down the outside of the inside pipe? Maybe add some sheet metal to keep rain from getting up underneath the cap?

On your other video you showed crown molding on the facia, is it the same type of wood that is used in the interior of a house, ?

I just watched one of your other KZbin videos in which you elaborated why one would not want to have an attic fan installed in a ridge vent roof. The rationale being that the attic fan would rob the ridge vent roof of the very air it is designed to convey from the soffits to the ridge vent. I started to wonder if the same rationale would remain true if one were to install a solar powered attic fan on the rooftop near the ridge vent? Wouldn’t the air being blown upward by the solar powered attic fan be in enough proximity to aid the ridge vent system in conveying air from the soffits to the top ridge vent area of the roof? Just wanted to hear your opinion as I have a ridge vent roof and am contemplating installing a solar powered attic fan to alleviate the heat gain that occurs throughout the day in the attic.

You have to buy those pieces at a HVAC store, here in Memphis they don't sell them at out roofing supply. I sure some might in other areas

When you spend thousand of dollars for a new roof, a few hundred more is a cheap alternative for a good flashing..
