importance of replacing Reverse Osmosis filters

many people don't replace these filters because the water tastes fine. There is significant algae growth and sediment in the filtration system. Even up to the reverse osmosis system. I replaced mine after just over a year. one can see the accumulation of algae and dirt. also it was difficult to open the filter housings because the threads had kind of fused over time.
