Considering when ferry on Right side with V on board , will mean same as being on the right bank (But this should have been given in the question though)....Another easy way to get the 1st question would be (assuming V on boat , which in turn is on Right bank as valid) the answer will always be odd . So answer is '5'.

Timestamp: 16:09 When TV are on the ferry, since V is in the ferry moving towards a bank on which S is already present , won't S be immediately moving to the other side of the bank as per given condition. This will lead to a increase in the required iterations.
