This has been a problem for a lot of streamers for a long time (not limited to just vtubers). And I’m glad Shu addressed some of these issues on stream. Luxiem brought a lot of new fans to vtubing and people tend to forget or not know certain rules and etiquette. It’s good to see the reminders every now and then.

Really commendable how he straight up lay his words. It's straight to the point you don't even need to confuse yourself. It's true than EN side (male specifically) is growing so fast and new fans needed to know how things get done here. Things won't adjust to you because you are new. You need to learn the etiquette and actually LISTEN to the livers/streamers themselves. Respect them and their words. Don't be bad weirdge. I'm happy Yaminions are only weird in a good way. Stay comfy. You guys are pog.

In Fulgur and Nina’s stream with Luca and Mousey earlier, they also talk about THIS EXACTLY. This has been a problem for a while. They need to realize as well that they’re adults, and they know their own limits best.

I'm so glad Shu addressed this. As a night shift worker who doesn't follow the "normal" sleep schedule, I've been telling people that it's not appropriate for a long time, and not just when it comes to vtubers. It's inappropriate to do it to anyone you aren't personally familiar with, like friends and family, in my opinion, because you have no idea what their habits are or the things they are doing when they *aren't* in front of an audience. Vtubers are adults, and they are perfectly capable of monitoring their own health and sleep schedules. Your normal is not everyone else's normal. The same applies to when someone says they are tired. Being tired doesn't necessarily mean they are sleepy because there are many different ways to be tired. There is mentally tired, emotionally tired, and physically tired, and when people just say they are tired, they really aren't specifying, so it's not really okay to just immediately jump to "You need sleep!", in my book. Sorry, end rant.

YES, that thing about replying to streamers interaction in twitter does feel a bit weird. But as Shu said, while it's not a big thing, it's still a weirdge thing to do. So if for example, there's two streamer replying to each other on Twitter, please just let it be their own because it's the interaction just between them. Liking is absolutely fine, but replying to that thread while not a problem, it's just felt weird and feels like not a proper thing to do.

Just wanna add a little to what Shu mentioned. The jp side of unspoken rules, a lot of them actually came from Nico Nico Douga, a lot of utaites, artists used to stream there, before moving on to mildom, yt, twitcast, twitch etc these days. My friend used to stream their drawing on NND back in the day and most of the rules like 'no mention other creators, no convos between viewers etc were implemented there and it kinda become the standard rules for jp viewers til today in many platforms.

I saw a vtuber (from big company) streaming in +3 AM time and he still fresh, but his chat want him to sleep, he also mention that he slept early before the stream. I’m really glad shu had this conversation about his rules. Since luxiem’s debut, they’ve been having a massive growth where it’s some people’s first fandom, or even first time in the vtuber community so they don’t quite know the ins and outs of proper fan etiquette specific and non-specific to the vtuber community. The reminders are also good to have since sometimes I forget some stuff too lol I’ve seen some other people mention how some luxiem/noctyx fans were kpop fans before getting interested into vtubers and I can totally see that with how I’ve seen some fans interact on the other’s streams since the fan cultures are so different. While it’s nice that they’re passionate (I’ve also been a kpop fan too lol ), some of the fan culture or things that are accepted there aren’t really proper here. I hope they can see other clips or any sort of reminder like this clip so they can understand the culture a bit better! Low key reminds me of when I got into vtuber like 2 years ago from another fandom and had a total fan culture shock lol On another unrelated note though, I’ve noticed that on other streams and sometimes twitter (but very rarely since I don’t really pay attention to the fan sphere too often) that there’s a bit of infantilization going on and some people don’t really understand that they’re adults that can make their own decisions, take care of themselves, and defend themselves. It kind of bugs me a bit because I sometimes go through irl and online and don’t really want others to go through that too. I do understand that some people don’t realize they’re doing it tho so it’s not always that bad lol but I’m glad that people are starting to understand their rules better though!! Really sorry for the long text! I’ve really wanted to have something like a discussion about this topic for a long time but I’ve had a hard time finding other people to talk with in a place that’s relevant 😅

Totally agree 100% with what you wrote here. I'm also a kpop fan but have slowly move away because of how toxic they're growing. I was hoping to get into vtubers to get away from them but it looks like I can't really escaped from them 😂😂 Also, judging by what the majority tend to write in the chats, it's pretty clear that they're on the young side so their inexperience make them unware of a lot of the unspoken rules unless they are specifically communicated about. I'm really glad that Shu understood this possibility and took the initiative.

@@sebbyjjang5741 omg same here with moving away from the Kpop community for a more positive one lol yeah... I can't remember if the notice for minors in every NijiEn member's (I think) video descriptions has been there since lazulight's debut but I recently just noticed it lol Once again, I'm really glad shu, mysta and Luca to my knowledge have had a discussion about their rules and clarifying stuff! I feel like low-key Shu is suffering from his other wave mate's way of streaming since some Luxiem kinda give BFE to their chat (while not entirely bad, it does bring up some issue of fans crossing the line a lot. Babying the boys etc.) Despite Shu having a completely different way of streaming. Just my two cents, it feels like a k-pop fanbase on some but I guess it's some issue that will appear since it's still new and Luxiem did grab a lot of new fans into the Vtuber scene

@@meancola yeah I believe there's lots of kpop fans coming over to luxiem etc, as I've seen many try to make music video streaming into the same culture as kpop, i saw many talk about being kpop fans and people I know are comparing to them to kpop. I used to be a kpop fan years before and whilst/after bts debuted, and dropped out of it before they got popular, so I have no hate towards kpop, but from watching that community grow toxic, I'm just a bit worried it could end up the same. Hopefully not with how the boys are handling things

i'm new to the streamers/vtuber community, and i notice these things in the chat, so i try my best to follow rules, and what i always remind myself is "they're real people, imagine behaving this type of way irl". like i always slap myself back to reality so i don't cross the line. i guess it's just about self-awareness. this also goes the same with the kpop community, as in the idol and fan relationship. it can really get toxic when people don't know how to set boundaries.

I'm new to vtubers (I started with Millie), but as a kpop oldie, I guess I have noticed how similar some portions of the fanbases behave? It's really interesting. Honestly, I really like that there are some like Shu who keeps the chat in line (I'm not in the right timezone for livestreams so I rely on clips and archives lol, so I pretty much have only seen Ike and Shu do it). Kpop idols hardly ever do that and I think it contributes somewhat to the babying/closely attached behavior of fans, you know? Always better to nip that sort of thing in the bud than encourage it.

so many problems has been rising as of late and i think its bcs the growth of the boys in nijien which brings many female fans. im starting to see a pattern where we start to act like theyre our k-idols and expect them to act a certain way while also feeling entitled to a certain treatment. this is exactly how fandoms in kpop works and i worry that it’s gonna get worse until someone doesnt set their foot down and place their boundaries. therefore i really hope everyone that is new to vtubers take notice of these rules and lets act as mature as we can be :) remind ourselves that we are a reflection of who we support so if we want outsiders to feel respect towards the streamers then first we must show respect to said streamers. i apologize if my wordings a bit off and all over the place. english isnt my first language sorry about that :(( i just wanted to share my two cents :D

I think the safest option for Shu's shipping rules is to follow JP etiquettes when it comes to real person fiction (RPF, or in JP terms it's nmmn) since from what I saw, Shu tend to follow JP etiquettes and rules in general. Basically the audiences are free to produce and enjoy it, but they shouldn't let the person involved knows about its existence and/or do not let it reach the person. Either by posting the works without tags/using NSFW tags (Shu said that he didn't check it), using ship tags only, posting on different platform that require password to open (like privatter or poipiku), and so on. Also it's advisable to block the involved person so it won't reach their TL because algorithm can be wonky sometimes.

I've been a female fan of niji for a few years and know most of the rules. I always thought everyone was so respectful and I loved watching clips for years and learning the etiquette. But with all the new commenters I even find myself being swept into the same mentality as some, or finding myself slipping up with the rules, which I am not happy about myself. I'm glad they're putting their foot down and reiterating the rules, because it needs to be said. I have been a tad worried on how the community has been growing and the attitude they have. I'm worried about vox's fans too as I heared they tend to trauma dump and overshare, which shows they're creating a unhealthy parasocial relationship, along with being toxic to others. With all this I hope that the chats all in all straighten out a little and become more harmonised

seeing ppl in the comments talk about kpop is also reminding me that like with kpop, fanbases of vtubers are normally composed by people from really different places, so there are culture differences there too.. i've been watching vtubers for a couple of years but only intermittently because it was so hard to learn how the rules worked and i was stressed about it ^^ anyway i really admire the way shu put this, he was both very understanding and very strict on his boundaries? it was v cool. and chat being happy to hear these rules was also very pog ^^ i think a really important thing to keep in mind is that streamers are effectively entertainers,, so that's the target goal and audience & that's what the rules are based around, so viewers shouldn't try to get something out of watching vtubers that doesn't align with that .. if that makes sense anyway thank u for clipping and helping to further this discussion !!

I kind of don't get the "don't mention other streamers unless I do" rule. I mean, I DO get it in the sense that you don't want chat to tell you "hey call that person/collab with them" or like pressuring them to interact or as Shu said maybe spoil things that the other person has done or comparing them. But there are also instances where it's unproblematic to mention someone else, imo. I don't know, I mean I got timed out on twitch once, for example, bc two streamers did something that reminded us all of when streamer A was in a similar situation with another streamer and I said something like "haha it's like the situation with X again" and got timed out. Others who just said the same thing without a name didn't.... I don't think it was bad to mention this tbh, if I had a normal conversation with someone, I could also say "hey remember when that happened", you know? But this streamer's chat is very over-modded anyways. Sometimes I feel like rules are inforced in a nonesensical way and not based on common sense of what is inappropriate... That also makes a chatter uncomfortable, I think. If they aren't even weirdging but feel like they have to think about every comment they want to write because they see so many deleted chats... Anyway, I am impressed that Shu has no extra mods! If his chat is so chill that he doesn't need it, it seems like a cool place to hang out :)

Hmm the case that u mention is not that bad. But i think the "dont mention other streams unless i dk" rules is there to help them build their career with their own work. I mean isn't it will be suck if your stream career is caried by other people ? It just kinda rude if you focusing on other people, when the streamer is the one who supposedly get the attention. Is that make sense ?

Hmm, the case you mentioned shouldn't be harmless, but yeah-- Shu did provide examples on what "mentioning other streamers" is like, both the blatantly obvious (warning about Luca's prank), the subtle (telling him that Luca is struggling), and what's okay (the Sonny incident). I think these three examples are good basis on what's okay and what's not, let's just start to base off from there, yeah? 🙂
@Mara_1337
@Mara_1337 2 жыл бұрын
@@irfankamil14 that also makes sense, yes. But I think it depends on what context you mention someone in. It's more like case by case, really. If ppl say "ah you are that streamer that collabed with xyz" all the time, I get that it's annoying to only be associated with that one thing. And other cases where it makes sense. But if it fits the context of the conversation and isn't telling the streamer to interact with someone and such things, I don't think it's too bad. Another example was e.g. when someone was playing this japanese conbini game and I thought lol that character looks like young Markiplier... But I can't mention it bc it's technically against the rules. I don't know I mean it's fine, I just sometimes thought "if I were a streamer, would I put that rule down? I kinda don't want to but in some cases it can be unpleasant" 🤷
