Important tip for Weather Forecast!

Zooming in on your forecast is preventing you from seeing the big picture
Zoom out look at the whole picture understand what’s going on, AND THEN zoom in more, understand wind direction speed and whatever behavior the weather is gonna present to you during the day, forecast models aren’t accurate to the exact minute, location and force but thankfully they are pretty good with the general behavior which is exactly what you need.
We need to understand if something BIG is coming towards us, we don’t care about 15 or 20 kn too much right, but we do care about 30 35+ id say.
By looking at the big picture you can also predict other associated weather.
Normally I would check the swell weather, rain, and thunder with the wind, but if I know what certain wind directions mean, where they form, and adding local knowledge I can know what to expect.
Here in the BVI, we do get offshore breeze at night that might swing boats around 180 degrees on anchor, so pay attention to shallows in the vicinity, mountains and coves can also accelerate winds, one night where it was 25kn outside one little curve in the topography accelerated the wind to 40kn when we were on anchor. Don’t even get me started on Croatia winds, Bura, Jugo, Maestral, Levanat, Tramontana and more I think. Each one with their own weather associated.
For instance, if I know south/southeast winds are picking up, Jugo is coming and it’s brining waves rain and thunder with it.
Learn your weather, look at the big picture, add local knowledge and nature knowledge, stay safe!
