Cubase keeps amazes me. I’m not a pro, just a hobbyist. I don’t import often, but I like to practice. But Importing audio to a destination in already in your template is a huge timesaver.

Currently working on a commission for 4 horns in F and tape samples. Did all the audio editing in two separate projects. If I liked the effects I was using on my Cubase project & had a lot of them (including Vst guitar amps), would it be better for me to export these as files including all the effects & bring them back into a mix template as if I am a client rather than using Import from a project? This works great in cubase 12, Chris but I end up with no sound and have to create new audio tracks and instrument tracks then copy the imported tracks over. I can’t see a fix. Thanks for the vid.

Don't know if this is a good idea but I like to import the basic audio files as you did but then adjust the gain level (using the mouse over the audio track) on each track to between -12 and -18dB BEFORE copying them into the project track positions. This way there are no inserts or modifications that would otherwise affect the gain.

Great video Chris! Question for you. I have the latest version of Cubase and with the new midi feature which allows you to select a key and you aren’t able to play any note hat isn’t in that key. How do you turn that feature off? I like two manually put in the notes on the midi editor but it won’t let me. I hope this makes sense :( Help!!!!!!

Yes, you need to go to the MIDI Editing window. Scale Assistant from the left zone, and uncheck all Suggestions. hope that helps

Hallo Chris how you set the locators in bottom zone that they are showing time instead of bars? Thank's in advance. Jan

To change the locators to display time, you need to change the Primary time format from Bars & Beats to Seconds. Press Shift+p. That will highlight the Time Display in the bottom zone. To the left of the highlight is where you change the time format. If you have Beats & Bars selected, the icon will look like a quarter note. Click on that and select seconds. Now your locators will display time instead of bars. *if by chance you cannot see the Time Display in the bottom zone, click on the set-up gear on the far right side of the bottom zone and make sure Time Displays is selected. Hope that helps.

Try import video file if you have Cubase Pro. That will get the audio of the video on its own track

There is always that one guy who doesn‘t like to import files into a mix template.

So the only way to have multitracks imported using the match tracks function is to drag all the multitracks into an empty project. Name the tracks so they'll match the tracks in the template. Save. Open the template project. Import from Project. Click match tracks.

No...there's several ways to do this....you can import the DATA from any Cubase Project into an existing one, and use the Destination Track to import the Data from project A (Mix Template) to B (Existing Session you want to mix).

Chris what’s the point mixing in 48kHz the project recorded in 44.1?

There's not point, my template is set up to 48kHz, so I always mix at 48 when the recordings are done in 44.1-48kHz. If I use hardware during mixing or if the recordings are at 88.2 - 96, I will mix at 96kHz.

@@mixdownonline but this conversion is like timestretching - it could degrade the quality - I think it’s better to keep the samplerate as it is.

Instead of dragging all tracks around you could create a dummy session with the files in it and then perform the track data import. Much easier and faster in my opinion.

You can do that to...I don't drag all tracks around, just some of them. I assign most channels to the correct one in my template during track data import like shown on the second part of the video

@@mixdownonline Of course! That's a powerful strategy! By the way,I like your videos very much. I'm still struggling to make the switch from Pro Tools. I am long-time user of that software, and unfortunately there are still features that I miss in other DAWs, including Cubase. Especially when it comes to audio editing, Pro Tools is so powerful and super-intuitive.

A nightmare? The complete opposite, I save so much time working with my Mix Template. Also work with a Production template :)
