STORY
Prepare to be captivated as we transport you to a remote and secluded corner of France, where a mystical Manor stands proudly amidst the embrace of a vast nature reserve. This enchanting estate, once the cherished home of the esteemed Travers family, holds a rich tapestry of history and intrigue.
Dating back to 1815, the French government bestowed upon the Travers family the solemn responsibility of safeguarding the neighboring nature reserve, solidifying their noble status. Through generations of astute horse trading, their wealth flourished, and their reputation reverberated across the lands of Europe.
Philippe and Marie, the beating heart and soul of this grand estate, imbued the manor with life, love, and laughter. However, in the year 2005, fate delivered a crushing blow, forever altering the harmonious existence that had flourished within these hallowed halls. Marie, valiantly battling breast cancer, succumbed to its relentless grip, and within a mere few months, Philippe, shattered by grief, bid his farewell to the world.
Though the descendants of the Travers family reside within close proximity, their connection to the manor seems to wane, their interest gradually diminishing. The once resplendent rooms, adorned with opulence, and the sprawling grounds, now embraced by nature's gentle embrace, together create an ambiance of serenity, a poignant contrast to the vibrancy that once coursed through its veins.
Yet, even in its forsaken state, the manor reverberates with whispers of its former glory. The exquisite intricacies of the carved embellishments, the crackling grand fireplace that has witnessed countless tales, and the opulent ceilings, each a canvas for artistry and splendor, all serve as silent witnesses to a bygone era of love and opulence. These stories, once vibrant and alive, now lie captive within the walls, yearning to be set free.
Standing in solitary splendor, the manor guards its secrets, their allure growing with the passing of each day. Why has the Travers family turned away from this grand abode, leaving it to the embrace of time?
Today, we embark on an extraordinary quest, venturing deep within the manor's hallowed halls to resurrect the forgotten tales of the Travers family's past lives. Prepare to be transported to an era of elegance and mystery as we unravel the enigmatic tapestry that weaves its way through this remarkable estate. Subscribe now and be a part of this mesmerizing journey of discovery!

That bedroom suite was knocked out! Gorgeous vanity, and that wasn’t a footstool, it was a stool for sitting. But that bedroom furniture, oh my goodness how beautiful! It really should be rescued. How sad all this is just being taken by the loneliness of passing time. That hat for horse riding is a dressage hat. I wonder if the coat and jodhpurs were in a closet somewhere . . . Porcelain doorknobs 35:26 That’s a bookend, my friend. Lovely house in a lovely setting. Thank you so much, Lesley! You take us to the best places. I really can’t thank you enough for what you do. Lesley, thank you for sharing this video. Everything is so intact and so many personal items left behind by the family. I love how the house has not been desecrated by anyone including you and your colleague. Even the alcohol! I love old architecture and this is one of my favourites. It is half timber framing common throughout Western Europe but mostly Switzerland, Germany and North Eastern France in the Alsace-Lorraine region. There is a variant of the architecture in the UK that is called the Tudor period around the last of the Tudor kingdom reign of Henry VIII and his daughter Elizabeth I. Beautiful Castles, Chateau’s and Manors still survive well today because of this sturdy design. The filler in between the timber frames is called “wattle and daub” it is a woven framework of twigs or sticks that fits between the timbers, and a mixture of wet soil, clay, sand, animal dung and straw, that is mucked into the framework and settles as a thick dense wall. It is sealed with a whitewash. One of the oldest structural designs, it has been around for 6000 yrs. This castle in the forest may be older than it appears. The material in the foundation is the clue. Inside the house is a treasure trove of many finishes and furnishings that reveal the wealth of this family. First of all, the finish carpentry and interior trim is of Belgian walnut. I also see European beech wood and European oak. The large ornately carved dining room hutch is Belgian walnut and the ornately carved chairs are Asian mahogany carved or commissioned in France. The furniture and artifacts are probably as valuable as 10% of the home. Such a treat to see!

I can understand why families may abandon huge properties due to the cost of upkeep. What i dont understand why they leave the furniture, art, etc. At the very least, they could salvage those and sell them, instead of letting them go to ruin.

It is not that people don’t care, nor that they leave it abandoned. This place isn’t abandoned at all, it is just that the kids and grand-kids live abroad and didn’t move in since their parents death. They have relatives going every month to take care of it, but since a few years and the whole exploring thing, people have been starting to brea in and leave the windows and doors open, that is the reason for the decay. If you were dispatched abroad for a few years to work, would you like people breaking into your house? There is a very good reason for them wearing gloves when “exploring”, they know very well that what they are doing is illegal.

It's best to leave your earthly belongings while still here, otherwise any potential beneficiaries will have a difficult time dealing with legal proceedings and taxing. I find inheritance tax extremely unfair, people worked for / received their earthly posessions for decades of life, paid the taxes on them, now again these are being taxed, why? I find it cruel and cynical.

In my opinion because someone keeps like this on purpose as if the people have just left. I wonder how the people from this channel got in too. You can't just enter through the door in such a house.

So nice! Amazing the first piece alone Im sure is worth so much! the thickness of the wood, plus the entricate details on the heads! Amazing! It must have been from over 150 years ago to be made so exquisitely!

Oh that is lovely. An abandoned castle in such a preserver state. A tragic history behind it. A chilling location surrounded by trees and mist. That definitely looks like my kind of dream house.
