split the heart along a grain line and glue it back. Not sure how effective it would be here... I have made turnings that had something inside this way. Split the wood hollow out the halves and glue it back along the split grain line.

Don't feel bad about people pointing out your hands shaking, sometimes I get it really bad but from a injury of my t4 disc. Makes my hands and fingers either go numb or feel on fire other times they shake really bad (though it doesn't happen as much). I find when I get nervous it's more pronounced and caffeine makes it worse so I usually try to eat when I drink coffee or have an energy drink.

As soon as the arrow has compressed, why not go ahead and pop it through the hole in the heart.. It might eliminate some of the splitting... I don't think it'll spring back immediately once the lignum has cooled below it's liquification point.

I soak my arrows (unshaped round shaft)head only over night in room temp water . Then clamp over night. Then place arrow thru bottle ,heart, etc. Then c Back in water with head over night. Allow to dry 24+ hrs. Carve head and feathers to suit. White pine also works good.

Why couldn't you just put the arrow through on the first boil? Why let it dry and then boil again? Whouldn't be easy to boil get through and while still worm get into shape?
