Some years ago I found an image online where they used metal strips that had a string knotted through them to create that tower. I could never figure out how to build one to prove it would work because it required the strips to be under tension in just the right way with knots on each string. Your method with the wood and the side screws is a far superior design and accomplishes the same thing. Awesome project.

When I was young I used to stay away from fads because I didn't want to be a sheep but I think back on how I was missing out on discovering something neat that ultimately would have brought me closer to my class mates. If you want to build it then build it! Don't create if it's only because your being pressured to though!!!

Izzy, how about using a pair of collets in the top connection, they could be as long as the thickness of the top plate, or even a little more. They would grip the entire circumference of the rope & pull tighter the more pressure that's applied by the tension. It would be a fit once though & no chance of taking it apart to paint or finish it. I know you could make them. Keep well from the UK.

While this was merely a feasibility study, you could replace the string with electric cable, put a light bulb at the top and make a lamp out of it. Just take care what kind of screws you use to clamp the cable so you don't puncture the insulation.
@carldavis9194 жыл бұрын
Damn I just said the same thing. Maybe inlay some wire clamps.
@KenJones19614 жыл бұрын
I didn't read all of the comments, but can I make a suggestion? Could you get it more stable if you solidly attach the rope top and bottom with the two middle pieces loose? Then jack the two discs apart as much as the fasteners can hold. Then tighten the middle pieces. I'm thinking you'd get a more taut rope and a more stable table.
@jamesallen60074 жыл бұрын
You are brilliant. Many thanks.🇬🇧👍
@normanacree1635 Жыл бұрын
Run 3 ropes equidistance from each other around the perimeter of the top down to the base of the table. That will stabilize the entire table. It it tries to tip one way, the 2 ropes on the opposite side will not stretch to allow it to fall over. This will also allow you to put more structures in between, somewhat like the first one you made at the beginning. TENSEGRITY RULES.
@greended10194 жыл бұрын
Оригинальная работа. Надо тоже попробовать.

I wonder if the most bottom string was pulled really tight during assembly, would it offer more stability..?

the more you stretch the string, the more it would resist stretching, so the more stable it would be.

Table, heck; that's an awesome *STOOL!*
@recless86674 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why you used fasteners at all for this build, but hey I guess it works. Personally I'd do knots and some kind of pass-through nipple/washer arrangement so I could tension the knots by backing out the nipple against the knots; I'm sure that would damage the rope a hell of a lot less than passing a fastener through the fibers.

That table would make a great stool with the rope tighter. It would also look good on top of the ladder structure.
