A joint is as strong as its weakest component. The horizontals of this joint are exceedingly weak, with about 4/5ths of their material being removed in the middle. There is also an exposed end-grain void, meaning the joint cannot be weather resistant. So, a poorly designed joint, but good KZbin-fodder.

@@MikeAG333 As I said, not all of his joints are for structure, this one in particular is used more as a "puzzle". And yes, as you have said, a joint is only as strong as it's weakest point. Not sure how much more clearer this can get. I see that I missed a word, "NOT all" of his joints. Does that help? Cheers :)
