I enjoyed your story about the pseudotumor. In 1980, I was having huge problems with spots and graying vision when ever I stood up. Finally, I made an appointment to get it checked out. I started with my PCP (required by HMO). He couldn't see any issues yet referred me to the Ophthalmologists. I was at the front desk when the staff called to get an appointment. They were booked up, so she asked if a date 6 weeks later was okay. Then she said "symptoms? She has spots before her eyes......okay, we'll send her right down.". They had me to ophthalmologist that morning, a visual fields before lunch, to the neurologist after lunch, a cat scan that afternoon, a spinal tap that evening. My PCP came by my hospital room the next morning and apologized for brushing off my issues. Luckily, it has been in remission since 1982! :)

I loved the fade away camera effect when Kristin was talking about "all the way through med school, all the way through..." to really emphasize it as a long list of things. Subtle but very well done. I usually just listen to these podcasts while doing shoppings, on my bike or chores, but then I probably missed a lot of these nice little easter eggs.

I'm an arts major, and almost 30, but am seriously considering medical school. This gives me hope for a non-traditional route should I decide to give it a go and go back to school. I have many lived experiences that have inspired me to think about medicine. Like Dr. Natter, I'm terrible at math and science and thought I was stupid, even though I have been told otherwise. Medicine fascinates me, and maybe this is a sign to think about it.

I think doc ought to offer an educational video on implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. He reportedly has one; it would be interesting to hear about the trials and tribulations of the experience of the surgery and daily living with one.

GAME idea: "Would you rather ...." Asking doctors questions of what they'd rather do and giving really awful choices like idk. "Would you rather .... work for the insurance and never have to fight against it again but feel terrible about the immoral parts of the work OR go through your whole medical training again, debts included?" 😂 And they have to explain their choice!

Seriously though, call me crazy, but this entire 'cast was low-key dramatic. 🙄 I'm late to the party, but I pray for the weird petty drama to end! D: A few entirely random things: 1: You -can- be an artist and scientifically inclined!! 2: Bill is my favorite character. 3: I had to do a monologue to audition for musical theater. So I chose part of the intro to Paul Bettany's character 'Geoffrey Chaucer' in A Knight's Tale talking about 'trudging'. Random things aside, you've been an inspiration! I'm a 32yo mom of 2 kids. (3 and 1) I'm lucky enough to have an amazing husband who is a union carpenter's. Due to that we are able to afford at long last, for me to return to school. (I'm close to receiving my RN with ultimate aspirations of getting my DNP.) Having so many plates in the air can be overwhelming, but your videos bring me catharsis when it gets rough. Keep fighting the good fight!

Look I am a radiologist and I know most of the spaces and anatomical structures, (in an image, don't know how I'd do in an open abdomen), I would NEVER EVER try to get to a medical student like that surgeon! That's just insane how people in med school are treated :(

I think people who had you struggle in school make MUCH better teachers than students who find school easy to fly through. Unfortunately, the pieces of educating teachers weeds those people out and it is sad.

Question: what is your opinion of visual snow? My oph doc told me once he thought I had VS but was extremely rare. Now, he is back-tracking saying nah - I doubt it - minimizes my symptoms as not being relevant and more. I do have visual after images, and I guess you would say white floaters and cobweb appearances. Also have history of occular migraines. Good talk here - loving hour uploads.

It does hurt. I had to do it 4x a day during pregnancy and afterwards I stopped for a long time. Mths and mths...... I'm bad lol. I'm trying to get healthier again now tho

CAn not understand why you, as an opha, would not get a full eye exam - just if nothing else to have the experience and relate. The fact you have NEVER does not speak well for you. As for Kristin.... can't your husband just give you an exam - he tells you to go get your eyes checked.

Curl up in a ball and cry? Seriously? I worked 36 on 12 off as an intern. It ruined my marriage. It never occurred to me to cry. My co-residents said I should have been a professional comedian. Maybe that's why I didn't crumble.
