@@MalcolmDeweythankfully the switch from acrylic to oil was not as hard as i thought it would be. I’m enjoying not remixing my dried colors every ten minutes 😂. But the alla prima softness and blendability is not easy. I really want to go wild in my mind’s eye, like the post-impressionists and less-crazy fauves, but when it comes down to it, i hesitantly paint what i see. Maybe it’s about learning how to see differently to paint like that. I really like your style, reminds me of Jane Peterson a bit (from the 1920’s or so). Thank you for being such a great teacher! Do you have any post-impressionist tutorials?

@@phillipschmidtpottery With post-impressionists I think of Matisse, Cezanne and you could add Van Gogh too. I cannot specifically say which of my paintings are post-impressionist. But I do take some influence from them such as the recent acrylics demos kzbin.info/www/bejne/maC6eHeEfrCEf5I It is important to push color and simplification of shapes to get that graphic influence. Japanese prints were a big influence for those painters.

Thanks a lot for these videos Malcolm, well explained. Had a question - do you use different paint brushes for different colour groups in the same painting? Or would you recommend using just one brush and dry wiping between application of colours and values? Thanks!
@MalcolmDewey
@MalcolmDewey 10 ай бұрын
Thank you. Best practice is to use different brushes for Lights and darks. Otherwise clean it with a little whites pirits when you change between the major values. always wipe the brush with any change of color though.

Hi Malcolm, just recently found both your YT Channel & Home Page website. I'm watching this series are a pre-introduction to the 'Paint like an Impressionist' course that I've just purchased and am looking forward to getting paint, on to the page soon, with both this series and the main course. Meanwhile might I ask what masking tape you use to create your painting windows. Is it a low tack one? I'm soon going to buy some & would like to use one that has been 'proven!' Best regards, Dave W.
@MalcolmDewey
@MalcolmDewey 7 ай бұрын
Hi Dave - actually we have little choice in tape other than basic hardware store masking tape. This one is for spray-painters so quite effective. I would not use it for regular paper though. Its fine on Arches oil paper and on panels.
