Love that you paint in gouache. I'm learning so much from watching you paint in that medium. Ty

Very helpful video. Even helpful you seeing struggling with this work...realises me that it happens to every artist. I start often to soon with the details, specially when i make a drawing first with details in it. Then i'm afraid to paint them away and forget how to do it. Maybe then a good idea to make a foto of it, so i can check it again when i paint it in.....

I particularly liked this video as it inspired me to carry on with a painting which just wasn't working - I'd got bogged down with the details, to the detriment of the composition and also my colours were very drab and sludgy. Having worked on it again, paying attention to the lights and shades and freshening up the colours, it is beginning to look like something - very happy!😅

Really great video dealing with mistakes I seem to make all the time. I will have to watch it every time I paint to remind me not to get stuck on the details before blocking in the main structure of the painting. Many thanks, Malcolm!

I use WM oils but I use them with regular mediums. The only thing I use water for is to clean the brushes and palette. So they’d be better called “Water Cleanable Oils.”

That turned out to be a really beautiful painting Malcolm. Can I ask if you had done one of your big brush small one go sketches that you showed us to do the other day, before you started on the main painting? Just wondering as you said your mind wasn’t on the painting. Thank you for showing us how not be beaten and persevere at a later stage when the paint is dry, ( and when one can properly focus) 😘
@MalcolmDewey5 күн бұрын
No, I jumped right in because the reference looked so good. Also, I was distracted by other things going on, so it really was not a great start, to say the least.
