Impressions at Yangshuo

Zhang Yimou created this beautiful light and sound show a few years before he masterminded the 2008 Olympics opening ceremonies. It's the standard girl meets boy with the help of a goddess story and well worth the trip to China all by iteself.

Just got back from this trip. Worth the visit, ask your hotel to make arrangements. Just be prepared because the Chinese tourist never shut the fuck up and will get up 10 minutes before the show ends. Thanks for posting this!

I saw it in May 2016. Absolutely brilliant. Although I didn't realise that it has been in existence for so long or that it was created before the Olympics. Not quite what the tour guide suggested.

Thanks for sharing. I watched this show many years ago. The stage was huge, with real river and mounains in the background. The acoustics was just right. Felt like being in the land of idyllic beauty. This video have a narrow, shaking view in most the time and is quite different from the live show. Go and watch it live and smell the fresh air there. I remenber how it moved people to tears when they were watching this. Absolutely worth doing so.

Also VIP seats were only $6AUS dollars more. Guide recommended. Definitely worth the money. Comfy seats and more room so no one was trying to struggle past you to get out. No problem with the sound. Everything was clear and being higher up helped in seeing the depth of the stage area.

Glad you posted this. The DVD sold at the show only shows selected scenes from the show. I agree: this astounding show is well worth the trip to China all by itself.

I've already been there and really impressed me. I love the songs they were playing. And I hope the sound of their singings in the dvd is good. Where can I buy it besides at the Yangshuo Impression?

Yes, I saw this play a few years ago 2019. Very surprising to say the least.

Tour guide warned us that the Chinese audience would keep talking and move around and leave early. This is no reflection on the show. It was amazing! A highlight of our trip.

kasernesion I guess that should be Vines Twining Trees. Bought the CD/DVD-set. Only CNY58 at the performance. Saw it a couple of days ago in Yangshou. Perfect! Update: hmmm, the CD is not equal to the live performance. Strike my previous comment. #china2014

The video doesn't give you the idea of the "stage" area. It was gigantic.
