Brecker and Coltrane were such freaks when it came to multiphonics, It's unreal how they both mastered the saxophone in almost every way

Outstanding brecker. Cool how he plays Coltrane stuff here and there but does it totally in his own way. Still sounds Brecker.

Funny, but I all hear is Brecker. According to himself, he was inspired much more by Joe Henderson. I can't hear that either. To me Brecker is Brecker. He played like only he could. Thank God for that! I really miss his wonderful funky playing....

I've always heard a lot of Cltrane in his playing - but he could obviously find his own style

I came here knowing that Mike would burn as always. This piano player was a pleasant surprise. All of that triad and suspended superimposition in his solo knocked me out!

Moi j'trouve que Brecker est fascinant dans l'sens ou son jeu est extrêmement net, tout est absolument propre et millimétré. La perfection à ce point, ça dépasse le simple travail. C'est autre chose. C'est fascinant.

...n an earlier "book of jazz history as a "popular" post-bop tenor player "who plays with a lot of emotion" That's true, he plays after the bop era (post-bop) he's a tenor player, he plays with a lot of emotion, and he is insanely popular... what is your point, i find the discription quite accurate.

Guys, let's keep in mind that the best thing about jazz is the freedom of expression. We all start off as clones, it's a process. Charlie Parker was a huge influence to Jackie Mcclean, Phil Woods, Cannonball and the list goes on.... Think of it this way,.The best thing is that they kept the music alive. As long as they sound exactly the same, who cares.
@lottierose86686 жыл бұрын
is that smoke coming off the bass players fingers ?

Once, Jackie McLean was playing in a bar and after the concert, someone aproached him and said that he was copying Bird. Then, he said that that was the purpose, he wanted to sound like bird, that he wanted to be like Charlie Parker. After all, that's what Brecker wanted, to play like Trane, nowadays, every young saxophonist wants to play like Brecker, see the point? (as well as Trane probably wanted to sound like Hawkins, or Lester Young, or someone else)

@sonybanez C'est évident que Coltrane était un des meilleurs de tout le temps mais Brecker jouait cette chanson aussi bien que Coltrane. Il y a beaucoup de notes mais coltrane faisait la meme chose. On l'appelle "sheets of sound". I hate when people say that brecker and coltrane play to many notes, i mean melodies are great an all the sheets of sound is really the only unexplored territory.. theres melody in tons of notes its like modal melody

With speed faster than sound, Michael deposits tsunamis of notes with unapologetic brilliance. 'Trane: Joe Farrell, Pharaoh Sanders, Courtney Pine, Michael Brecker, Bob Berg, Chris Vadala, Shawn Wallace, Chris Potter... In his OWN lane is James Carter - all by HIMSELF.

Great and more thann so , but Tranes Impressions is the song. Especially with Eric Dolphy.

He WAS a Coltrane clone...at least early in his career he was. They all were. All Brecker Liebman, Grossman, and Garzone were trying to do back in the day was copy Trane. Brecker was even quoted in the 70's saying he wish he were Trane. That being said, they all branched out and grew into their own identities on the horn. But, even with Brecker's own identity, I still hear Trane lines in almost every one of his solos.
@wyndhl94657 жыл бұрын
ianhendersonjazz ...hearing 'Trane in Brecker... Brecker himself might have said: "That's a good thing; I have achieved ONE aspect - - - my initial aspect of saxophone mastery. "Thanks to John, my idol and de facto mentor." Be that as it may, to even the jazz neophyte, Mike cannot be mistaken for John - vice versa. Each has his own sound-voice as well as spiritual and emotional feel. Despite that, one can adore and admire both of them equally. I do; am sure you do too.

If that statement was logical and had anything to do with what I said whatsoever, maybe I would be a little offended. But please, enlighten me on your ways of music, oh wise one.
