I may be out of order here, but if you had cut the insert hole with an offset towards the front of the base then you could get more use from each insert by rotating it slightly each time you need a fresh face. 😁. Oh, and sorry if others have already posted the same idea.

No not at all! One of the things I love about this journey and KZbin is you're always learning, especially from the community. Yup, a few people have already pointed it out, and it's such a simple idea that I'm kinda annoyed with myself that I didn't think of it at the time. I think however I can retro fix this, so I may very well do that. That being said...I do have a couple hundred inserts...:)

if you offset the circular hole for the sacrificial inserts (or rotate the hear a little to the left or right), you can rotate the mdf to get a fresh bit of the mdf circle for better support and not have to replace the inserts as often

Your top drawer can also double as a dust tray when you drill through the sacrificial insert 😉 Jokes aside, nice build! It's given me some good ideas for building my PBD40 Into my cabinets 👍

Now that.....is a really good idea. I'm going to ensure I have a centre tray that does that.

Another great video mate, your style and delivery are spot on. I'd like to purchase a 'set' of your Shims, when you get to make them for sale. Soon, I hope. I also like the colours you have selected for each size. I guess a set of four for each size would be about right, not sure! About a year back, I purchased an Ozito digital so called table top drill press from Bunnings. Outstanding drill press but, it is a beast and so heavy. I'm 50/50 on dumping it for something a bit mor portable (lighter). I looked at the Bosch at the time but, thought it was a bit to small. Should have thought that through a bit more. Anyway, now the good weather has arrived, I'll be getting out into my two car garage/workshop. Got a few projects I'd like to do. Thanks again mate, love your video. see you in your next one. Kind regards, kmdc.

I prefer round inserts. You can turn just a few degrees to get a new surface, especially when using small bits. Where as square one you only get 4 surfaces maybe 8 if you can use both sides.
@barberspaddockwoodworking2 ай бұрын
Someone else mentioned this and it's one of those 'oh duh, why didn't I think of that moments'. But that's learning for you. I can still probably do this, just need to change the insert location.
@richardwadsworth42592 ай бұрын
@barberspaddockwoodworking not sure on that drill press. But could the column be turned in the base slightly to offset the insert?
@barberspaddockwoodworking2 ай бұрын
Good thinking, but no unfortunately, it has a pin that aligns it straight with the base. I can certainly enlarge the hole and offset from the top, I have plenty of the coasters for large ones as well anyway, so I may very well do that.
@Grey_Ranger_Raptor24 күн бұрын
trouble with the round insert is it might get caught and spin and cause all sorts of issues
@barberspaddockwoodworking23 күн бұрын
That is a possibility, but if it becomes a problem, I'll offset the circle a bit.

I don't sorry plan to sell kits for this yet, especially based on someone else's work, but I may investigate with permission if it's possible. I suggest looking at the links and supporting the original designers first. 😀

Just a heads up.... those drawstings on your hoodie are a big no no around machinery... they can lead to a serious injury if they get caught up in any rotating machines....

Any chance you can post a link to the double sided tape, or possibly confirm if the name is spelled Daiso? I can find Daiso tape but it doesn't look like the tape you use in the video, I mean the one I can find is just a roll of tape and doesn't come in the little cardboard cutter thing you are using.

Sorry! I can't find a link to an AUS site for this, but it's definitely available here. Here is the SG link that is the exact one I use and it's great! shop.daisosingapore.com.sg/collections/scdouble-faced-tape/products/4549131534887

If I bought the Bosch i would want to redesign the stand because the small throw on it is painfully annoying. As a question, would you be interested in regaining the space currently occupied by your Dust extraction and reduce noise in your workshop massively? I ask from the perspective of someone about to commence another workshop build and considering many factors. I have a background in designing systems to keep noise in or out or stop it travelling. If you would like to discuss feel free to reach out.

I know a few shops that have put their D/C outside, and it certainly makes inside the shop quieter, but I lack a place outside my shop that would be suitable, so at this stage probably not an option for me. Who knows maybe in future!
@michaelrobinson9643Ай бұрын
@@barberspaddockwoodworking Don't write it off. A weatherproofed ply or some of the colourbond/styrofoam sandwich panels can form a small enclosure outside on a simple concrete slab; Using baffles and suitable internal lining it will be as quieter or quieter than in your shed for your neighbours... clearly for you too.
@expatmoose2 ай бұрын
A question, is it not a bit low or have you put it to a height more suitable for yourself? Looks super cool, the whole workshop tbh 👍🏻
@barberspaddockwoodworking2 ай бұрын
Thanks! No not low for me, probably for some other people yes, but it is a small drill press, so standing next to it, it probably gives off that perception!

Some handheld drills have protection, not to spray your wrists.not the cheap ones.

Protection or not, I did all the wrong things when that accident happened. It was early in my woodworking journey and I can assure you it won't happen again.

when you twisted your wrist, you were holding the drill incorrectly, you had already twisted your arm halfway, the lever from your shoulder was very weak, and you were drilling on a table, and in this situation you had to drill on a chair. Also, for such large diameters, you need to use a drill with an additional handle. Sorry for my English, I'm writing through a translator, greetings from Russia.
