Hi Robin, I've just watched this video again. After nearly two years after purchasing my M5 MkIII and soon discovering your excellent YT channel, I find myself often going back to specific videos of yours to remember, review or revise menu options and functionalities. They are just so useful, and of all the OMD instructional videos available, yours are my go-to source. Thank you for all your clear, concise and brilliant content, and I wish you a very happy and fulfilling 2022!

Thanks for the tips Robin! I figured out how to use the cluster AF Area on E-M5 III : under menu A2 "AF Area Pointer", option On2 "Displays frame while shutter button is half-pressed" has to be selected, and this also activates the function

Although I've had an EM1 1 & 2 since day zero I always learn new things from your excellent tips videos. The weakness but mostly strength of the Oly OMD range is the richness of the functionality which can take time to fully learn but when you do really helps when you are out shooting. Your videos do help in this process so please keep them coming Robin 🙏

As usual - you are simply the best, Robin! As an old school EVF half-press AF and re-frame shooter I am hard-pressed to adopt/adapt to the newer AF options Olympus offers. Your videos nicely demonstrate those features in action. The thumb-drag is surprising effective. And of course all the touch-screen options work so well when one is in stealth mode. Keep up the great work - I always look forward to your articles (and now, Vids). ¡Viva the m4/3 Revolution!

Thanks Stan! There are more ways to do AF now, and for close up shooting (macro work, or tight portraits) I prefer not to use center focus and recompose. There is slight shift of focus plane, hence choosing the exact AF area is crucial for critical focus.

On my Panasonic I suspect that my nose triggers touch to focus, I have been using area focus and the area moves.... I have the option to use a narrow band across the (middle or not middle) screen, that reportedly works well. The touch pad is used in the Canon EOS R, on that camera you can customise the amount of the screen that's used (like a Wacom tablet). Helpful with my big beak.

Thank you. I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know. I would like to know how to do tricky bird photos when the bird is in a tree with branches in front and behind the bird. I tried to take a photo of a cardinal this week. I did try to manually focus after the autofocus got me close, but the cardinal was still hard to see because it was high up in the tree. Is there a way to zoom into the live view before taking a photo to do the fine tuning manually?

You have 2 main options. Either set to manual focus, turning off AF totally or use AF plus manual focus which allows you to use AF but then fine tune or radically alter the focus using the focus wheel on the lens.i find setting focus peaking to on helps with both of these settings

I have been having trouble with the main subject not being in focus and the background is, especially in street photography. I was told that if you have the AF sensitivity set to +2 the AF will try to focus on the background and is only good when a fast subject is moving head on on toward the camera.... anyways Id like to know more about settings of AF Sensitivity in different situations.

For some situations, rather than move the AF target with the control pad or touch screen, can I lock focus using the center AF target and recompose? I know, an old fashion technique when early AF had only one fixed target, but it seems faster for me than repositioning the target. Suggestions? Thanks.

I have an issue with the AF targeting.. Holding camera (E1 M2) in right hand, using left thumb to move f/point, I get a lot of delayed movement? The green square lags, stutters, or just doesn't move at all? And, just to be sure I'm setting it up right, I have to turn on the touch option on the live view screen, correct? But my newer Oly EM5 Mk iii just cannot auto-focus (and I can't even seem to get manual focus to work) when I try to take cloud pics (w/out any landscape elements wanted in them at all). I put my focus point on spots where there's a 'line' b/wn blue (sky) and clouds (to try to get a contrast element) but this newer Mk iii camera still keeps hunting and won't focus. Any suggestions?
