I really would like to master one-legged front wheel wheelies - so riding on one leg and at the same time only on the front wheel. I practiced a lot, and only rarely I made a 2 or 3 seconds ride. Watched some tutorials before, but none of them really gave me the grasp how to master it.
@SkatefreshVideos4 жыл бұрын
One wheel wheelies are the MOST difficult skill on inline skates and balancing there is 1000x harder than on 1 skate or 2 front wheels. I don't do vids about this because 99.9% of my audience are not wanting to learn this stuff. My tip for you for this skill is to watch the position of your knee over the 1 wheel. It must never pass over the front of that wheel. A good drill is to get VERY happy with 2 front wheels in scissor position (one skate infant of the other) and then try to move your weight from 50/50 to 60/40 and 70/30 very slowly, putting more weight on the front wheel (WITHOUT leaning forwards at all from the waist/hips. head and shoulders UP. This pathway will get you to 95/5 and one day that back wheel will lift off the ground......this will not be a fast process but do 5 mins every time you skate. Tell me how this goes.
@TIJEY-BEG4 жыл бұрын
@@SkatefreshVideos I thank you so much. I save your instruction for personal reading only, to walk through it over and over again. And as I skate almost everyday, I try this approach from time to time while riding. After one week or so, I can let you know if it works better than my own approaches. Yes, I see how difficult one-legged front wheelies are, but it looks so amazing when I see slalom skaters elegantly move around the cones with that move, and it looks so easy. I know this is no figure skating or slalom skating channel, so I follow some other skate channels as well, because I really would like to become a professional slalom skater. But I like your channel. I learn some street skating, and basic mechanics of inline skating. I thank you and honor you so much for all that I learnt before, from the videos made by the Skate Fresh team.

I think it;s very important to actively choose your skating area especially when you are a beginner. Skating where there is lots of debris is like learning to drive on a motoracing circuit. A bit too advanced too quickly. I am going to be making an online product all about street skating which goes into this in detail, but this will take several months yet. To survive all surface obstacles you need to learn and master the Scissor position which with some speed will safely take you over all the obstacles you listed. But ideally it's best to miss them as hitting each obstacle carries the risk of being tripped up and falling. If you'd like more hands-on help from me, check out my new video bundles with 10+ free tutorials. You can even choose your level! www.skatefresh.com/category/english/

I'd love it if you could take a video of some of your progress, like before the video your 5 wheels and edge (filmed from the front) and then after some practice with the video tips. I want students to be able to see themselves as this is the only way to really know if you have the knee bent ENOUGH. I'm making some Speed skating e-books at the moment with the focus being on teaching the stduetns how to video themselves in order to see what I see and then to compare it to my video. This is as close as you can come to having me with you (I teach you what I look at and how I correct it). I'm really excited about this project. It will launch early next year. Send me your video!

Hi Mam... M a great fan of urs from India.. I started skating a year ago.. Now I can skate in Recreational Skates(LA Sports skates) but I wanna switch to Bont or Luigino Racing skates. To be true I cant do the third kind of movement you showed in the video. Also recreational skates are quite heavy and can't do that 'push and recover' skill as is done by pro skater. So is it proper time to switch or should I continue with my recreational skates.? Also at the age of 26 can I really learn double push and be fast skater? Please guide Mam. Thanks for all your videos.
@SkatefreshVideos10 жыл бұрын
Arijit. In my opinion about 95% of skaters who move onto speed skates (Bont etc) do so far too early, before they have mastered the basic and intermediate level skills. In thier rush to get into speed skates they then actually reduce their ability to improve in speed skates. How do you know if you moved off recreational skates too early??? If a skater has a pronation onto an inside edge when in the push or the glide section of the stride then it's too early, go back to recreational skates until you can comfortably glide on a centre or outside edge. I see about 80% of ALL new speed skaters skating on inside edges and this puts bad pressure on your ankles and feet and reduces your speed! So try to be perfect in all tecnique (even Double Push) on rec skates first. Then when you transition to speed skates you will continue to improve. Everyone thinks speed skates will AUTOMATICALLY make you faster. Not true and its often the opposite, can make you slower and make the training a lot more difficult. Good luck! Later this year I am producing 3 e-books with videos all about speed skating including the double push so I think you will particularly like those. Info will appear here on the youtube channel so keep connected. About 3 months I hope.

I am using your question above to write an article about exactly WHEN is the time to make the switch from rec skates to low cut speed skates as soooooo many people get this decisionw ring and pay dearly for it (in terms of lost speed, pains and unfortunately even injuries.

So many people tell me everyday how skating has been so beneficial for them, health, mental fitness, social life, travel...meeting partners, finding new careers, its endless. Do it. SKATE. Give it a good go and see how you feel. BUT please study and try to learn the best ways to do it. It's a science. It's Gravity + Velocity. I'm sorry but this wrist guard I wear is no longer for sale anywhere. It was discontinued many years ago and I am just using my old ones for as long as possible.

Hi Asha, I'm Veroslav from the Czech Republic. What's the ideal weight distribution please?
@SkatefreshVideos4 ай бұрын
The ideal weight distribution is to build up to being able to do 70 or 80% on the support leg 9which is also on a centre edge). This is excellent training but you might spend a few weeks at 60/40 for example and then keep practicing and progressing. As you improve and gain control, your % on one leg will go up and you'll build better confidence and balance. OK?

+Trujillo uv I started at the local skating rink. They have a hand-rail so if you wobble you can catch it so don't fall over. At the rink they will have staff who are very happy to teach and give advice, or just ask any skater they are a friendly lot. It took me two sessions of about two hours each before I felt confident to skate outdoors. Once you can skate without falling over but still wobbling I went out and found a smooth path to practice on but tennis courts are a good place to practice.

Are you in the front of the foot or back with the forward lead leg
@SkatefreshVideos4 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. You mean the foot in front that has 4 wheels on the ground? Weight is always on the ball of the foot.

Can I ask why we have to practice inside-edge and outside-edge? Is that we use them to turn left or right, right?

Hi Asha. Thanks for the video! I have a problem though. Whenever I try to perform the basic toe roll, I tend to turn towards the direction of my toe-rolling foot. I have a centre edge on my front foot so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any tips?
@SkatefreshVideos3 жыл бұрын
Hi. This is Sergio from Team Skatefresh. Is someone filming you while doing the exercise? I ask because sometimes we do tilt the skates and we are not aware of that. A light inside edge is enough to make you turn. And your toe-rolling foot could be tilting as well. So the best way to find out if you are actually straight is with someone filming you. Another thing that can cause problems is the weight distribution. In this exercise you really need to put your weight on the front foot and keep your knee very bent, but be careful because the toe-rolling skate still needs some weight in order to avoid a wobbling motion. You can try doing this same exercise but with the 8 wheels on the floor (or 6 if you are riding triskates), more weight on the front, like in a lunge position but not that low. Once you are comfortable going straight in this position called scissors you can "upgrade" going into toe roll.
