For today's ballet technique tip, we discuss brisé. This petit allegro step can be very difficult to master. You have to lean in the air while you beat your legs. So we discuss the leg and arm positions, how to get a big jump, and how to travel. Hope this helps you in your next ballet class!

Thank you so much for the nice tips, I've had to do this in a lot of different genres and I've struggled a lot with it, especially the height and getting out my leg fast enough without losing the "power" of the plie. On a side note - you're looking wonderful lately, I'm really happy with the progress you've made with your condition, two of my fellow dancers here have the same problems and it always helps to have a reference/advice.

You can do all kinds of upper body stretching & strengthening in a chair, and you can do strengthening for your toes & arches. You can do some upper leg stretch when you go to the kitchen - grab your heel behind you & stretch out the front of your thigh. (Sometimes if I can find a box that's tall enough & it fits under my desk, I can put my foot on that & do some back of the leg, low-back stretches one leg at a time.)

I'm in pointe since may i think and i been using the same pair of shoes since then and now i feel like they are too soft or doesn't fit my foot properly. Since the beggining i feel like that wasn't the best brand or type of shoe for me and my feets but that was what the teacher ask for (grishko 2007 pro flex) i know i don't have the enough experiense to know when they are dead but it doesn't feel confortable, it's more difficult to go up and stay in balance, now in the last days i struggle in pointe. In one of the shoes when i stand on pointe i feel the floor, like one little part of the tip of the shoe is more soft (too soft) (it's where my big toe is) but the low part of the shoe(box) stills hard but the one it more in the beggining of the box is not hard at all. My shoes do a strange Sound when i dance or when i warm up a I being seeing a lot of dead pointe shoes(videos) and there are worst than mines and others say that if the box is still hard its okay. Pointe shoes are expensive and i can't say "my pointe shoes are dead let's go and buy new ones". What should i do? I know i have to tell this to my teacher but maybe it's just me and being dramatic or i don't know. Here in my country usually the teacher say to you the brand that you have to use and you go and buy that one specific shoe. I know my english it's a little bad but i speak spanish. Kathryn i love the way you dance and your videos help me a lot if you can do a video talking about dead shoes :) please 💕 that would be so helpful

Unfortunately I have to do these with one arm down and another in a low 2nd. Doing it with in arabesque arm would probably be way easier! Do you have any advice for how to lean forward more with out sticking your pelvis out? I have tight hips and am afraid to lean forward too much because I can't hold it. Thanks so much for this video! It’s a lift from under. The bottom leg kicks up the top leg and if you have to bend in 2 for that to happen then so be it. Right? The bottom leg is the root. You must know the root for each step in ballet. What would be the pointe if not?

Love your videos!!, do you have any videos on jete and sauté arabesque? Specifically for jete I learned two methods (not sure either are correct), first was the brush jump into the air stretching both legs then land in cuppe, 2nd was brush jump but try and get the cuppe on the way up thus showing the cuppe position in the air (vice at landing)… i like the second one better if it is correct?. For sauté arabesque, I was always taught to try and land the sauté in arabesque to show the line longer and then quick fi through vice dropping the arabesque to early on the way down anticipating the next step. Thoughts? Thanks much.

Hey Katie! I was curious if you could do a video talking about effective and helpful methods of choreographing and teaching choreography for non-dancers or beginner dancers? I'm a musical theatre dancer who has recently started being asked to choreograph for local productions. I'm finding it difficult to translate "dancer speak", if you will, to my actors-who-move and I'm trying to figure out how to make things click more quickly and keep my actors from becoming frustrated.

could someone help me figure out something ? theres a step I learned in class and I can't for the life of me remember the name (I'm on a break from dance atm), you start how you would in a chaine but in plie, you bring your feet together in 3rd/5th releve, I'm not sure, turn and then you're back to the start position in plie to go again ? its grade 6 if that helps

It is possible to do "brise" in "poisson" position? Or no? That is, as you leap, you are in a sort of fish or mermaid position in the air....?
@charlessmith263
@charlessmith263 5 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to practice the "brise", as I learned, is to do this in "temps leve" position. That is, you are in second or 1st position, plie, and rocket into a jump (jete or saut) and you do the quick brushes on either leg, toes touching the calf several times lightly "l'air" (this would be called "temps leve brise"), then you land in either 5th position crossed or 1st position uncrossed.
@charlessmith263
@charlessmith263 5 жыл бұрын
Temps leve - means any jump that you do is in place - no turn at all. If there is a turn, I would call this a "temps leve en tournant", and the easiest turn in the air is a 1/2 turn or 1/4 turn.
