This was a very helpful video about when to choose a lofty club or not. I have seen a few other coaches discussing the actual technique of chipping and pitching from various distances…and some are noting a more upright and less wristy method as becoming more popular. I’m most interested to hear and see your take on this. I think you are great at explaining and demonstrating these evolutions and studying the stats and best players. Looking forward to more short game videos. You are a great teacher. Cheers!

Having trouble muffing chips, even the dreaded shanks. Can you help with actual stance and swing. Thank you in advance. By the way you have brought me back to golf as I was about to quit the game. You have done what I have spent thousands in lessons and schools none of which went through the swing as thoroughly as you have. It worked the first time and I’m hitting the ball more consistently than I have in years. It’s brought enjoyment back to the game. Thanks again. I will be watching all your lessons!!!!!

I find yours to be one of the clearest and most practical instructions website. Thank you so much! As you have asked for questions, here are some which you may like to think over (I never got clear answers to them from others): 1. (Easiest) When you demonstrated how the low point of the hoop moves back as the downswing comes more from the inside (and the opposite happens for the outside in swing), surely that is just your manipulation by rolling the hoop away from or towards the target thereby moving the low point backwards or forwards. Of course one can, without the rolling to the right or left, turn the hoop clockwise or anti-clockwise and still keep it touching the ground at the same point. Please explain why the rolling has to happen.
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
The path you swing the club is definitely an influence to Low point and where you are hitting the ground. The hoop/pool noodle was a visual but you can try this as an example ,put a ball in line with your front foot and try to hit the ball while swing the club massively from IN TO OUT without shifting any weight..you will find that you cannot do it unless you swing the club more degrees out to in.

3. Most instructions nowadays discourage rolling of the forearms and rotating the clubface closed just before and after impact - contrary to A J Boner's point that 'the clubface is the bat'. If that is so, then why don't they make the handle (and therefore the shaft) point at the sweet spot so that making contact with it would be so much easier (like in almost all other racket sports)? At present the distance between the shaft and the sweet spot is different for each club, and we are holding the handle and not the clubhead. Should we then think about and try to control where exactly the shaft is pointing (ie the distance from the shaft/hosel to the sweet spot) at impact in order make contact on the sweet spot? If not, how should we train to make contact on the sweet spots for different clubs?
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of golf instructors discourage EXCESSIVE rolling of the forearms and not rolling of the forearms all together. There has to be some rotation in the forearms to some degree. The golf club is not a straight object. There is loft on the club face so if you get the handle to point straight at the ball, you wouldn’t be able to hit the sweet spot. Due to the design of the golf club it requires different impact conditions and location of the shaft at impact
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
Regardless of which club you are using, if the ball is on the ground you have to be able to swing the club a few degrees from in to out, hit down on the ball and have the shaft of the club to lean forward at impact.

How can I avoid seeing my ball gain too much height with my driver, which penalizes my distance, especially with a headwind?
@albertshahn3 жыл бұрын
Is there a reliable and safe technique when hitting shortsided chips where u have to flight the ball from the rough and land soft? I open the face to expose the bounce and try to slow the tempo but this gets inconsistent results. I also don't feel comfortable w bump and runs when I can't trust the rough, and aiming for fringe also is literally hit or miss. Wondering how elite players handle this.
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
these are very difficult scenarios for even the best players. If you need to launch the ball higher and you open the face then you will need to have the confidence the swing it aggressively. Having an open club face and having a slow tempo is definitely a mistake.
@scottw92672 жыл бұрын
Do you ever find your students are better off with one club around the green because the lack of practice time makes it easier to get comfortable with distance control? I can understand that a bump and run with a hybrid is better suited for a long hit off the fringe, BUT it's such and infrequent shot that I'm just guessing at distance and feel more confident with a 50.

2. Maybe this point is so simple it doesn't need any instruction, but nobody talks much about, after impact, the detailed movements of the left arm, elbow and wrist from right arm parallel (where presumably the left arm is still straight and the left wrist is slightly bowed) all the way to the finish (when the left arm is bent and the left wrist is fully cupped). Could you please talk about these movements.
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
This topic sounds like it would be about how players release the club. Some players extend the lead wrist, some players roll the wrists. Etc. I could make a video about this in the future.

4. Nobody ever talk about the HUGH divots the pros (including your goodself, I'm sure) take when playing their full wedges (and sometimes their short irons), although we can see this time and again when they play on the course. Why do they do it? Why doesn't anybody want to acknowledge it? Is there a way to practise this on a mat at the driving range? During the swing, should we concentrate on the low point (in front of and below the ball), and not on the ball?
@JKMGolf3 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely essential that golfers learn to hit down on the golf ball. The golf club has loft so there is no need to try and help the ball in the air. I think a lot of instructors do want players to hit down but getting players to do it correctly is the difficult part! You definitely want to focus on controlling the low point. That is crucial fundamental in golf and the low point should be slightly ahead of the ball.
@ajsingh14953 жыл бұрын
more important is the set up and back swing and follow through is missing.
