I love this sentiment. Once you get decent gear it’s really more up to you to create a good photo. There is something called skill stacking that I think applies well to photography. For me it was starting with knowing my camera and settings. I settled on manual with auto iso. Get time in the field to practice intentionally. I create little projects for myself. You can stack your skills if you focus on mastering little things, and before you know it, you got a nice base of knowledge!

Exactly. It sounds like you got the right mindset. Just keep on pushing forward, and it will come.

I like your recommendation to practice one element of a learning session for an entire outing to master that particular element like tracking flying birds. Then repeat this process again for a new topic, excellent advice!

Thanks for the feedback. If you spend a whole session to just practice a single element, you can much better remember it, test out when it works and doesn't. And then you will reuse the learning more or less on auto-pilot in all upcoming sessions. But if we only occasionally waves the lens around trying to track a bird in flight, it doesn't stick or it takes a lot of sessions with only limited mastering of that particular skill. Glad you liked the video.

I once spent several nights a week, for a month or so, practicing walking around and shooting from the hip to get better at zone focusing, using my focus distance scale, and framing with my 40mm lens. It has helped quite a bit with street photography because I don’t have to guess if someone is in the frame or in focus.

Improving compared to what? How do you measure this?
@peterbredahldam Жыл бұрын
Compared to yourself :-) That Is what I always do. Comparing to others will not give you something tangible to improve. Feedback will.
