4:19 Regarding cycling subject detection. You can use the "custom settings recall" function and just choice subject as the setting you want to recall and set it to say, animal. You can then at least cycle from your current subject detection settings and animal detect. I have my recall set to the joystick button press and cycle from birds to animals.

at about 4:15 you've missed something. You can assign Recall Shooting Functions (hold) to a button. I use Fn1 for easy use. I set this up for say Burds. Now say I'm shooting say flowers and I;m set up for that. Then I see a bird ! press Fn1 and boom, its set for birds ! I can. with that function save shutter speed, AF mode, fps, you name it. Works wonders.

I've had my Z8 since it premiered and it was night and day coming from the Z6ii and Z50. I still kept my Z6ii for astro but paired with that 400 4.5 and a 1,4 tele it boosted my nature photography.
@peterbredahldam16 күн бұрын
I've been thinking about the 1.4x TC for the 400 4.5. Do you lose a lot of sharpness worry the teleconverter?

Glad to know you’re happy with your Z8. I don’t own a Z8 but a Z9. I mainly shoot wildlife and birds but have never been pleased with my Z9’s AF performance. My current and only telephoto lens that I shoot with my Z9 is Z600mm F/4S TC. They are considerably less responsive and accurate than my Canon counterparts. Despite the bigger body sizes and highly customizable buttons that Nikon offers, it doesn’t make any sense that there is only one back button on the top right hand side at the back.
@peterbredahldam17 күн бұрын
Thanks for some Canon insights. It must be amazing if it is more responsive in the auto-focus. I'm not aware of the lens combo having any specific slowness, but someone like Steve Perry would probably test that. Anyway, thanks for your comment :-)

Do you know when the Nikon Z9ii is coming, since you reserved it?
The reason that a 24 megapixel FF camera is better at handling ISO/noise is do to the photons being slightly larger than on a 45 megapixel FF sensor. The sensor is the same size on both cameras, but one is cramming twenty one more megapixels on it, which means each pixel is slightly smaller, which means less light gathering capabilities. This goes for ALL camera manufacturers. It's the reason why most indoor and outdoor under stadium lights Nikon sports photographers shoot the D5 and D6. Look at the new Canon R1 which has great low light performance with fast readout, it's because it has a 24 megapixel sensor. If Nikon "which I think they will" comes out with a 24 megapixel Z9/Z8 equivalent, it will be blazing fast with excellent low noise capabilities. I shoot the D850 with the vertical grip and Nikon Z9. The Z9 is a D850 on steroids with video capabilities the D850 could only dream of. The D850 is still one phenomenal stills captures camera. I have been shooting with the Z9 since it came out, the battery life is great as is the integrated vertical grip.

Love my Z8. It really is that good. ISO noise compared to the Z6 is a natural result of the higher resolution. I find it pretty close to my Z7ii in noise. With the latest noise reduction in Lightroom/camera raw, I usually get pretty good results anyway.
@peterbredahldam17 күн бұрын
Yes, it gives great results despite the little more noise compared to the Z6ii. But great point about noise and higher resolution.

Thanks so much for the information. At the end of the review, you say "You can start at f/2.8 from far out, like a meter's distance, and then when you get closer gradually increase the aperture so you still maintain the entire subject in focus while throwing the background out of focus." I'm confused - isn't the aperture fully open at 2.8, and therefore wouldn't the background already be blurred? (I'm new to photography, so I'm probably misunderstanding - I hope someone can clarify.)
@peterbredahldam19 күн бұрын
The depth of field decrease as you get closer to the subject. Therefore you need to close down the aperture the closer you get. If you don't only a part of the subject will be in focus. Does that make sense. I am considering a video count more in depth with the ins and out of aperture (not macro specific but general photography, however it also applies to macro)

Hi Melody, Sorry I went for a CygnusTech Custom made diffuser together with a speedlight. I really likes the way the light wraps around the subject, even though you cannot change the position of flash heads.

Focus hunting is there even with the F mount lens which I have bought in 2013, it works well even now, if it hunts too much grab the focus ring and pull focus manually that's what I do with the shutter half pressed down.

Sorry if it wasn't so clear, but I try not to be too much of just a talking head or just reading out a script. But here they are: - Planning is essential - Embrace the weather - Use leading lines - Separate the elements in the composition - Use a foreground object to create depth They are all in in the video, but point taken that it works help if I bring your attention to each point. However, it will get a bit in the way of making the video more into more entertaining and sharing the experience. However, I will keep experimenting 😃

EXCELLENT! I found the 4 Ps to help with my wildlife photography here in Alaska. 1) Position. If in the mountains, use the hillside elevation to bet at or slightly below the eye level of the animal. Position to capture catchlight in the subject's eyes. Use the topography to position yourself so the animal feeds towards you with the first photos at eye level with the animal on the skyline of a hill. For perched birds and waterfowl, they typically lift off into the wind so position yourself with the wind at your back. Most wild mammals have a keen sense of smell, so position yourself with the wind in your face for wild mammals 2) Planning. Plan your position so the animal naturally comes towards you in a still position. Often a moose, caribou, or bear will come quite close with that type of planning. 3) Patience. Patience and let that "magic moment" happen naturally and the animal does not know you are there. 4) Persistence. Enjoy the journey and by visiting the same site many times you learn about the perfect location for light, background, and animal movements.
