Hey Seb, I've heard in other reviews that given the fact that the Beyond completely filters out light from the outside, it negates a lot of the brightness issue. Would you agree? Perhaps It's more of a compelling issue with you since you have so many headsets to compare it to?

@@Totem9519 I agree that brightness is not an issue for me. But it's still dimmer than most other headsets. But again it for great contrast and overall this is only an issue for people who want really bright headsets.

Finally. A headset that is plug and play straight into SteamVR (NO THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE!!!), has external tracking, audio of MY choice, face gasket that fits MY face, extremely lightweight, has pancake lenses and has micro oled panels. I have waited so long for a headset like this (rip arpara). Sad to see the fov won't be huge but that's okay if it means I get extended VR sessions. Also no dynamic foveated rendering. It's a sacrifice but one I am willing to make for comfort.

thanks for all the VR help over the years. I did the G2 with mods, and knuckles , but I was using an old index as a light station receiver, and GPU crashes would undo configs for knuckles... Want 4k per eye on tap with knuckles dammit! lol Couldn't do it with the 90 fov but know it's a no brainer....

Definitely the Bigscreen Beyond for me. I have the pimax 5k super already, its ok but just too bulky. I find myself going back to my quest 2 all the time. Still bulky but I can use it longer without having to adjust it. The pimax Crystal looks very uncomfortable and heavy.

Crystal is about the same comfort as the 5k in my experience. The trick with the 5k, 8k is to get a decent head strap like a vive DAS and have a counterweight. I know added more weight sounds counter intuitive but it does make it way more comfortable. That said, the beyond is in a league of its own in terms of size and comfort.

@@HeadsetHistorian I definitely agree on the counterweight with the DAS, thats what I have on my 5k+ and for short term play sessions it makes the headset infinitely more bearable. The issue though is that I play a lot of games in VR that I play for HOURS and the additional weight makes my neck sore if I play multiple days in a row.

An important point in evaluating and perceiving a VR device is the amount you spent. When they give you a helmet for free, try it and/or give it to you, it's a completely different experience than if you would buy it with your own money. You do not have this feeling, so you spent money and want to get the maximum benefit, which is often not the case .. Just thinking out loud

Reverb G2 level vertical fov is the deal breaker for me, Vertical FOV is what creates the immersion

The Apple headset is a Standalone headset and has a computer built into it. This needs an external PC.

So, they say it's 102 degrees FOV, but we all know that the advertised FOV is never what it is in real life, so is this actually 102 degrees? The reason I'm curious is because my Odyssey+, which is spec'd to have 110 degree FOV, is actually closer to 102 degrees. In fact, you posted a video on this channel 2 years ago that made FOV comparisons between major headsets at the time, and you tested the O+ and showed that it was 102. If that's what I'm used to, then I'd be okay with this Bigscreen HMD because if it's REALLY 102 degrees, then I won't notice any difference. I just don't want to get a *lower* FOV than the Odyssey+.

Negative! This is around 30ppd headset. Only on 60ppd above would the pixeld disappear, but there is no such headset yet, except the 10k $ xtal.

The price is stupid expensive, not to mention you need to buy also lightouse basestations and controllers. Here's what you'll get with half the price with Oculus 3: Almost decent resolution but good colors, even if not OLED. Inside out tracking, no more cabels to your neck! IPD adjustment - anyone in your house can use it!!! Wireless connectivity with your PC and pretty good decompression, knowing that it's a Gen2 chip. Stand alone mode! Apps and games from Quest store. 3D color passthrough (AR/XR) plus depth sensor. You can bring it to your vacations. How the hell can Beyond even compete with that price?

They don't need to compete with this price because this here is an enthusiast offering that's not for the mainstream. Being able to offer a low volume device like this with these kind of optics where they would when produce a face gasket that is made for you for 999 is very cheap. I know it's hard to understand but it's true.

@@mixedrealityTV yes, so actually I know that Meta and Sony with PSVR2 are is in loss, they sell under price to gain market first, so noone can compete with their prices. But still, for the Beyond I need to carry everywhere the base stations and I need to buy controllers too, so it's problematic. Bigscreen should consider making a bundle with the lightouse hardware.

@@mostwanted2000 Lighthouses are an old technology, that is going to disappear, even Valve don't want it in any of their future headsets. Bigscreen should make a slighty larger headset but with inside-out tracking.

@@thatstokedgamer , @mixedrealityTV, the only purpose of Beyond is to replace your Index or G2. But for me, I would have to pay an extra 620€ for lighthouse trackers and controllers. You guys forget about these because you already own them, but it is like buying a car without an engine. It is simply 3 times the price of a Quest 3 which has everything and this has nothing but panels. Or the same price as a Crystal, but you have an easy headset, so I believe it beats the Crystal.

Its a shame that it does not run 2560x2560 native at 90hz but instead it is upscaled to that resolution. You only get 2560x2560 at 75hz. Thats a bummer. Almost bought it till i learned about this.

This is not true! At 90HZ it runs full resolution using display stream compression, which is the same thing all these high resolution headsets (PImax, Varjo Aero, etc) all do. It’s the only way to get that much data over DisplayPort 1.4. This fact got misconstrued and misrepresented in one guys review and now it seems to be hard rumor to kill . The compression is not at all visually noticeable and very different from the type of compression used for USB or wireless. It’s industry standard even for high resolution computer monitors.

The difference between this and Crystal is that Crystal will get better with software updates + eye tracking + all in one mode + Foveated rendering + local dimming algorithm + tracking + other ppd lenses + accessories........ Bigscreen Beyond you have to be fully statisfied with it from start cause it won't improve later....

a lot of those are bad points. -local dimming is not required on oled as oled already had vibrance and true blacks - eye tracking can be moded in as well, as they have printable faceplates you can customize and print yourself. as foveated. -you get accessories on the beyond, top strap, audio solution, and lens options for diopters pros vs crystal: -lightweight -oled -tiny form factor -comfortable(subjective) Pros vs beyond -aspheric glass lenses -slightly wider horizontal fov -wireless -significantly taller vertical fov tldr; they are pretty much the same and at the end of the day, its between super lightweight vs aspheric lenses, wide fov

I am amazed how comes they didn't put at least a gyro inside, is a small sensor.. In that way you could used it to see your 3D memories anywhere, for example you go to ski, you film 360 and come to the hotel, you cannot see your damn films. Is just a tiny sensor, we have it in our phones. Plus the fact that you cannot adjust the IPD so borrow it to your girlfriend, to me this is a never buy.. is worthless, sorry 😉
